Car with sheriff, wife struck by alleged drunk driver
By Kelly Whitmire
kwhitmire@forsythnews.com
Forsyth County Sheriff Ron
Freeman said he has several questions
and has been in touch with state lead
ers after he and his wife were recently
struck in their car by an alleged drunk
driver who was not in the country
legally.
The wreck happened in south
Georgia on Saturday, April 27.
Freeman said he and his wife, Dana,
were returning to Forsyth County after
a trip to the Vidalia Onion Festival and
were about to enter Interstate 16 in
Treutlen County when a reported
drunk driver who entered the country
illegally crossed the center line, caus
ing a wreck that totaled both cars.
“Simply put, he is a drunk driver
who crossed the center line and almost
hit us head-on,” Freeman recently told
the Forsyth County News. “I got
turned at the last second to avoid a
head-on collision, but it totaled my
wife’s car, injured me somewhat,
broke my wife’s ribs.”

Study names roads,
intersections most
prone to wrecks
By Daniel Dotson
danieldotson@forsythnews.com
A recent traffic study identified the most
wreck-prone county-maintained roads and
intersections in Forsyth County.
The study, done by engineering consultant
Kimley-Horn in connection with a Local
Road Safety Plan recently adopted by the
Board of Commissioners, shows traffic wreck
data collected throughout the county begin
ning in 2018.
Among the many statistics generated
through the study are the number of wrecks
that occurred on county roads and at county
intersections.
Many of the identified problem areas are in
the south end of the county near Halcyon and
the proposed future site of The Gathering at
South Forsyth.
The five county-maintained intersections
where the most wrecks occurred from 2018 to
2022 are:
• Shiloh Road at McFarland Parkway: 229
wrecks
• Old Atlanta Road at Mathis Airport
Parkway/Windermere Parkway: 187 wrecks
