Multi-vehicle wreck, fuel spill closes Browns Bridge Road
By Kelly Whitmire
kwhitmire@forsythnews.com
A portion of Browns Bridge Road
was closed for hours following a
multi-vehicle crash and fuel spill.
Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office
officials said Browns Bridge Road
was closed on Thursday, May 23
near the entrance to Walmart fol
lowing a three-vehicle crash that
resulted in one vehicle spilling hun
dreds of gallons of diesel fuel.
“One of the pickup trucks
involved was carrying a 250-gallon
tank of diesel fuel in the truck bed,”
officials said. “The tank ruptured in
the crash and caused a substantial
fuel spill.”
Officials announced that the road
was closed at about 8 a.m. and
reopened just before 10:30 a.m.
The FCSO traffic control unit and
Forsyth County firefighters
responded to the scene.
FCFD officials said the fire
department’s hazardous materials
and logistic teams worked to con
tain the fuel, though “a small
amount” did leak into a nearby
storm drain.
Georgia’s Environmental
Protection Division has been
informed of the spill.
Officials said the cleanup was the
reason for the lengthy closure.

In the Forsyth County District 2 County
Commission race, incumbent candidate
Alfred John won the primary over former
three-term commissioner Brian Tam with
67% of the vote.
John’s victory was secured by a margin
of over 1,000 votes, with John receiving
2,572 votes and Tam receiving 1,264 votes.
John told FCN that he is thankful to
Forsyth County voters for the opportunity
to serve another term.
“I’m excited that the voters have selected
me to represent them for another four
years,” said John. “It shows that I’ve earned
their trust. I intend to continue that and
accelerate it over the next four years.”
Tam told FCN that he is grateful to his
family, friends and supporters, adding that
he called John to congratulate him on a
“hard fought race.”
As no Democratic candidate is running
for the District 2 County Commission seat,
John is guaranteed to sit on the Board of
Commissioners for the 2025-2029 term
beginning in January 2025.
