ON a report of a Committee con
fiding of Mr. Williamlon, Mr. Dane,
Mr, Clarke, Mr. Tucker, and Mr.
Baldwin, to whom was referred the
report of a former Committee, re
fpeding the inhabitants of Pod St.
Vincents,
Refolded, That measures be taken
for confirming in their pofieffions and
titles the French and Canadian in
habitants and other settlers at Pod
St. Vincents, who, on or before the
year. 1783, had fettled there, and
profelfed themselves of the United
States, or any of them, and for lay
ing off to them at their own expence
the several tracts which they right
fully claim, and which may have
been allotted to them according to
the laws and usages of the govern
ments under which they have re-
Jpedively fettled;
That four hundred acres of land
be reserved and given to everv head
of a family of the above'deferiprion
fettled at Pod St. ' *
That the Governor of the weftern
territory cause to be laid out, at the
public expence, in the form of a
square, adjoining to the present im
provements at Pod St. Vincents, and
in whatever direction the settlers shall
prefer, a trad of land fufficient for
eompleating the above donations;
which trad: shall afterwards be divid
ed by lot among the settlers who are
entitled to any part of the fame, in
dich manner as they shall agree.
On a report of the fame Commit
tee, the following inllrudions to the
Governor of the Weftern territory
were agreed to:

YOU are to proceed without de
lay, except while you are neceffiirily
detained by the treaty now on hand,
to the French settlements on the
Miffifippi, in order to give dispatch
to the several measures which are to
be taken according to the ads of the
20th of June lad, and the 28th ind.
of which a copy is enclosed for your
information. You are to enquire
whether there be any Indians who
claim the lands on the ead fide of the
river Miffifippi, above the mouth of
the Ohio —and if there beany furh
Indians, you are immediately to take
measures for holding a treaty with
them, and exringuifhing thnr daim
at leaf! to so much of the territory as
ycu find deferibed in the aforefaid
acts, and in the fevera! a#s of G£to~
ber 22d, * 787, relative to lands on
the Mifiifippi. If you find it cheapest
and best to excinguifii ihe daim of
those indians by agrtting to furnilh
them annually witn a certain allow
ance in corn, or other provifiens. for
a term not exceeding ten years, ycu
will contra#dfecoidingly. When
you have examined .the titles and
pofieffiens of the iettlers on the Mif
fifippi in which they are to be con
firmed, and given directions for lay
ing out the fevera]' squares, which
the settlers may divide as they think
belt among themselves by lot, you
are to report the whole of your pro
ceedings to Congress.
After you shall have difpatt hrd the
several matters committed to your
care on the Miflmppi, ycu will
take Poll:St. Vincents in your return,
where you are to purlue the measures
directed to be taktn by the act of '
this day, and report your proceed
ings accordingly.

Four Pounds Reward.
WA S stolen last Wednesday
night, out of a pen near my house,
(and another horse left in hi l - place) a ttrong
made bright bay work gelding, trots heavy,
is a little sway back'd, about it; hands high,
9 or 10 years old, and has no brand or marks
that I know of. The horse left is a sorrel,
about 14 and a half hands high, 9 or 10 vears
old, a large blaze in his face, hind feet and
legs white, a few saddle spots, has t een <’ f ed
to the geers, and if lef: bv any but hi* s r! gbt
owner he is desired to prove bis property, pay
the charges and take him away ; an'* whoever
secures the thief in goal and fends home the
horse with information to the ffibferiber, it-aU
