The finest quality of Bath Sponges, T i'et Waters and Extracts for the Handkeichief in bulk, at P. B. Reid s General Anderson is undoubtedly the finest police chief of any city of the size of Savannah in the -country. With a very limited force at bis.disposal he has mauaged to preserve the peace in our community to a re markable degree, and has won tor him self a reputation for fearlessness and impartiality in the discharge of his duties that he may well be proud of. It ts no fault of his nor do we venture to say whose fault it was, pending the investigation by Council, that tho be irtless murderer of Rosa Poewll was a b>wed to walk quietly ont of Savannah tt't'-r his cowardly and atrocious crime. The investigation will no doubt locate the responsibility, and in the mean time our city might supplimeut the r ward offered by the Governor for the arrest of the murderer before he gets such a distance as to preclude all 1’ pe of his being brought back to en.-wer for his crime.
