A grand Festival will be given on
Monday night February 20th, at Long
shoreman Hall, for the benefit of St.
John Baptist Church, of which Rev.
D. Grove is pastor. The object is a
laudable one and should meet with suc
cess.

J. H. C, Butler the indefatigable Prin
cipal of the West Broad Street School,
was treated to a little surprise pany by
the pupils of his room. It was the
Professor’s birth-day.

Rev. Robertson the indefatigable
pastor of St, Philip’s A. M. E. church,
has returned after a few days absence.

The races at Thunderbolt on Monda.

The Mutual Benevolent Society pre
sented their president, Andrew E. Rob
inson Esq., on Mouday night last with
a handsome mantel clock, as a slight
appreciation of his long services as Sec
retary. The presentation was made by
A. K. Desveruey E.-q. in a few brief
complimeutary remarks, a refering to the
valuable assistance rendered to the As
sociation by the gentleman, *aud was
responded to by Mr, Robinson in a few
timely appreciative remarks.
Mr. John Leon formerly for a num
ber of years employed at the crockery
store of Geo, W1 Allen Esq. on Brough
on street, died at his residence in this
city, on Wednesday last after a short
ill .css, Mr I jeon was a g >od quiet cit
izen and Was well thought of by all who
knew him. He was a member of Myr
tie Lodge, P. G. M Council and the
Universal Brotherhood, which, societies
follow d his remains to the grave on
Friday last.

Mr. George A. Lord and Mias Rosa
Belle Sassard were united in wed
lock at St. Stephen’s Church, in ac
cordance with the impressive servi
ces of the Episcopal church, Rev.
J. J. Andrew officiating. The brid
al party presented a most lovely ap
pearance as they entered the church,
in the following order; Miss Jose
phene Morel and Mr. L. M. Pol
lard, Mies Rosa Low and Mr.
John C. Lord, followed by the bride
and groom, who took their position
at the chancel, under a floral
horse-shoe suspended above the
couple, presenting a splended effect.
Mr. M. T. Jones and J. L. Mirault
were the ushers on the happy occas
ion.
The bride’s dress was cream sur
ah, with brocade and eccru lace,
front beaded, and apple blossoms,
bridal veil covering dress, and
diamond ornaments. Miss Morel
wore cream albatross and brocade
silk with Spanish lace; Miss Low
being attired in cream albatross and
moire silk, Spanish lace and moire
ribbon, both being ornamented with
diamonds.
After the ceremony at the church,
a reception was held at the new
residence of the happy couple on
West Broad street, where they re
ceived the congratulations of their
many friends. The presents
received were numerous, being val
uable and of the most useful kind.
