Policeman McMurry precipitated a
row in Yamacraw on Thanksgiving Day
that will long be remembered As the
Tribunk gathered the Lets the police
man ordered a lew colored men off the
sidewalk enforcing his order at she
same time with his club. One of the
men caught hold of the club. McMur

ran mortally wounded. The policeman
shot him after he fell. A crowd quickly
gathered and began beating the polict -
man. Policeman Cr ino came on the
scene flourishing his pistol and firing
He shared the same late as McMurry.
Crimmins took side with the police oen
aud suff-ied as the other two. Yann
craw was wild for a c uple of hours.
The sentiment of the peup •? is that the
officers indiscretion caused the whole
trouble. Cronin killed colored man a
year ago in the same part of the city and
McMurry had a row s me time ago with
the same class of mn. The colored
people of the viciuity are law abiding
and any arrest could have been made by
any other officers of the police force
who possessed judgment and discretion
Tweuiy-six colored people are in jail.
The Tribune will give us readers more
of this unfortunate affair iu its next

Capt/ Pleasant declines to give me
