The Republicans of I. be ty county celebrat

torchlight procession at Mclntosh, at 5 o’clock

Liberty Coruet band. The march was from
Mclntosh to Snelsonville, a distant of 4 miles
Their were coutinual cheering fer Harrison,

The processesion reached snelsonville, at 8
o’clock There were a great many speeches de

He spoke twenty-five minutes and were ap

Mbrsa of Savannah, styled as the "Ladies Pet”
Uis speech!wasivery interesting throughout: he
told now vlgourously the Republicans leaders
fought to carry their county, Chatham, but
like many other places counted out. The next
speaker was who is known as our“ Doll Baby”,
Capt, L. M. Pleasant. His speech and advice
we know is always interesting, for he always
"Getthere Eli.” Our next speaker was our
loving “Business Boy” J. E Whiteman Prof

crowd laugh was Rev. W. H. Styles, lie is a
talker from "away back” He credited the

many funny jokes, but for the first

the number are several women who have
been heavily fin»d. Many oases liavo

for the alleged beating of linemen
McMurry and Cronin and the man Crim
mins;
The evidence at the coroner’s inquest
ol Mike Tillman who was killed in the
difficulty, showed that policeman McM ur |
ry did the only shooting at the time;
yet the jury tells an intelligent public
that he was killed by some unknown
party during a riot. The fact is far as
we can learn there was no riot at the
time the unfortunate man was killed.
He was trying to escape from McMurry
wheu tho lattar shot him repeatedly.
McMurry has been a citizen of the
United States for about fifteen mouths
it is said, aud may think he cau shoot
down a Negro beeause he resists arrest
and tries to escape. The law does not
uphold a policeman when he shoots a
prisoner who is trying to escape a sim
ple arrest. McMurry has by his ignor
ance of our laws not only taken a human
life but has imperilled the wellfare of
our whole cijy. The good people of our
city, white aud black should he unani
mous iu condemning the unlawful use of
the pistol by the police and it is expect
ed that Solictor General Fraser will call
the atteuticn of the grand jury uow iu
session to the matter.
The property owtiera and law abiding
eitizens "of Savannah have much at
stake to allow the authors of the repeat
disturbance to go by un-notieed wheth
er they be policemen, or citizens, white
or black. The well the whole
people is concerned, and those who pre-.
cipitfitvd the row whether policeman or
cit izeu should be held to a rigidjaccount
ability by the law.
