Prize Fighter Dies
After Fight Injuries
PHILADELPHIA—(ANP)—Bill
i(Chieken) Thompson is dead. He
died at Temple University Hos¬
pital Tuesday night, five days after
he took an eight round lacing from
210 pound Johnny Haynes of New
York at Toppi stadium. Thompson
had spotted Haynes 30 pounds
when they went into the ring for
his last fight, the first since he
was severely beaten by Jimmy
Bivins in April at the arena here.
The fatal fight last Thursday
had been a one-sided and un-cx-
citing one. Chicken was on the end
of all of the telling blows except
in the fourth round when he top¬
pled the New Yorker for the count
of three,
Haynes stepped into the lead
again in the fifth. Three seconds
