Yesterday Judge Crawford decided a case brought before him by parties from Telbot county. Matthew Cook, some time ago, filed a bill vs. James McManus to cancel the sale of a homestead and to restrain him from trading notes given for homestead. Before injunction was grant ed as sought by the original bill, McMa nus had traded notes given for homestead to his son, R. D. McManus, who had com menced suit upon this vs. Matthew Cook, purchaser, which notes will be carried into judgment at the March term of Tal bot Superior Court. The original bill was amended by asking that R. D. McManus be made a party defendant and enjoined from further prosecuting his common lawsuit vs. Cook until the question of title could be settled as to whether the homestead could or could not be sold The defendant, R. D. McManus, was made a party, and an injunction was granted to stay proceedings until after the hearing on the original bill. This case involves the right to sell and make titles to homestead property under the enabling act passed on or about Jana ary 5tb, 1876, it having been decided by the Supreme Court that the original man ner of sale by the approval of the Ordi nary was unconstitutional. Mr. Martin was counsel for the vendee, and Tom Willis, Esq , for the vendor. ediclne IP. egular Monthly rds. igent Reasons lor a Grand Success—Hos- Slomach Bitters. They combine all the benefits of the me- talic, and can be sold at about one-fourth the cost. They are light, elegant, dura ble, and destined, we think, to supplant all other burial cases, and especially the old-fashioned unwieldy metalic cases which have been in use among the well- to-do for the past quarter of a century Made as these now caskets are, of chem ically prepared wood, it is claimed that even in point of durability they are equal to metalic cases, and in all other respects decidedly surpass them. The public should oall at Rooney’s warerooms and examine the specimens on hand. at T1IE GASH DRY UOODS DOUSE. to arrive the present week : Spring Prints ; Spring Oassimeres for Boys ; London Cords, Victoria Lawns ; Ladies’ Collars and Cuffs; 28-inch Black Alpacas at 27.1c—worth 35c. You all have read in Luke, viii chapter, how Jesus called the devils out of a man possessed of them, and did make them go into swine, which were feeding near, and caused said hogs to rush into the lake and choke. Now, we are possessed of “devils,” and when they left our office t’other night they were attacked by a very large boar near Munday’s stables, which caused a fearful stampede. He still cherished the hatred which his ancestral swine had for devils, and determined to have revenge. He “made for” one of them, and was about to go into him. when a brother devil of very savage look said in angry and threatening tone, with knife drawn, “Old boy, I am healed, and am ready for all such monkeys ns you. Though we have just had some ‘tangle leg,’ yet that is no reason why ye Davwineans should attack us so soon after having mixed it with ‘tiger tail.”’ And t^iese same devils thought verily that they had gotten into the land of jimjams, which, being inter preted, is “I have taken too freely of five cent whiskey.” Dr. John L. Jordan, Columbus, Ga.: Your Joyous Julep is the medicine of all medicines. My wife attests its great merit, for after trying every known reme dy for Neuralgia, she fonnd nothing to relieve until she tried your Julep, when relief was prompt and perfectly satisfao - torv. Respectfully, yours, " T. J. Stone. Fast Type Setting. Master Wiley Williams, connected with this office, set up in two hours 3000 ems of tolerably fair manuscript. It-is equiv alent to 2600 solid in our brevier type. This is very rapid, being 1500 “leaded” or 1300 “solid” per hour. He commenced the business not two years ago. One thousand per hour is accounted fast work for an experienced journeyman. Our young gentleman is as bright and quick in brain work and comprehension as he is speedy in “typing” words and sentences. Mrs. Calvin Teel, living near Hamilton, aged 97 years, died last Monday. Her husband, ten years younger, survived her three days. The balloon, snake and variety show humbugged Hamilton on Tuesday. Some of the best people were taken in by three- oard-monte and relieved of surplus cash. These people avoid the larger places. The balloon went up a few hundred feet and fell about a mile off. The County Commissioners have levied a tax of $500 to fix up the court house, and they will have it in readiness for the April term of the court. The friends of Mr. William Griggs, formerly of Hamilton, will be glad to know that he has a position in the Comp troller’s office, in Atlanta, which pays him a good salary. Last Tuesday in a difficulty at Hamil* ton, a negro man made an attempt to cat a young Mr. Harris, with a knife, when he drew a pistol and fired at him. The ball struck the store house of Cowsert & Kimbrough, passed through the wall and missed Mr. Ben Kimbrough's head not more than six inches. The young gentlemen and ladies of Waverly Hall propose having an enter tainment of music, charades, reading, etc., on the evening of February 23d The proceeds will be applied to repairs on the church and cemetery at Mt. Zion. Doors will be open at 7 o’clock—admis sion twenty-five cents. We have condensed the above from the Hamilton Journal. Not a Candidate. We are authorized to say that Capt. John S. Burch, of Russell county, Ala., will not be a candidate for Sheriff of that county, at the next election, to be held on the first Monday in Augnst 1877. Mosquitoes. We have heard several in the last few nights. Summer must be near. The Chattahoochee Circuit. The cases on tho docket of the Chatta hoochee Circuit will be taken up Tuesday in the Supreme Court. Lawyers inter-, ested will govern themselves accordingly. Catholic Church. Father Cullinan is again in charge of the Catholic Church in Columbus, Father Miller, having been sent to Savannah. Mr. Wm. H. Young has indeed been a benefactor to this section, and an honor to liberal advancement. The Eagle and Phenix manufactory with its extensive buildings and thousands of spindles and looms is a grand monument to his enter prise, and forethought and influence fo good. To the planting interests he has conferred as useful benefits as on the com mercial and manufacturing world. To him is this section due for the introduction of the best class of fertilizers, the rejection of worthless ones, and the widely dissemi nated knowledge of improved farming. That the inteligent employment of guanos of the richest grades wonderfully increas es the productiveness of the soil cannot be questioned. That the use of the acknowledged standards largely pays the planter, has been demonstrated to per fection. These lessons have been tanght practically by Mr. Young, and he has continued to bring and sell that which the experience of years has shown to be of the greatest fertility giving pow’er. He again offers those leading fertilizers— Soluble Pacific Guano and Compound Acid Phosphate for composting with cotton seed. The sales have been immense, and vastly enhanced yields of cotton and corn on smaller acreage have been the results. Old worn out planta tions have been forced to surrender su perb crops. Hundreds can attest their efficacy and extended popularity. Men can believe what they see, and the recu- perative properties given to soils by these guanos are marvelous. The growing use of them will yet cause our country to blossom like the rose and regain wealth for the people. In farming as in every other occupation success has demonstra ted that the best is the cheapest. The axiom is as true of fertilizers as to any other purchase. Intelligence is not slow to heed the undeniable principle, amply tested by the experience of thousands, Joy and gladness to all suffering from Lung and throat complaints. This new principle, Dr. J.H. McLean’s Cough and Lung Healing Globules, cures Coughs, Colds, Asthma and Consumption. Trial Boxes, by mail, 25c. Dr. J. H. McLean, 314 Chestnut, St. Louis. GRAND BALL!
