—The Sohlllinger pavement is. being
laid in the eastern portion of the Court

most admirably executed.
—We noticed a newely married couple

are exonsable, however, for they are about
seventeen years old, and have juat mar

—The boys who went to New Orleana

She thought that it was a very short

Whit Cane, who killed Dez Cherry in
Stewart oounty about fifteen months ago,
was oaptured in Baker oounty last week
by the Sheriff thereof. Sheriff Herndon,
of Stewart, being advised of tbe fact,
went after and brought him to Lumpkin
and imprisoned him in the oounty jail.
It is not thought that Cane Will be dealt
with. He ran off, es we are informed,
simply to avoid being oonflned in prison.
It is said that be shot Cherry in self-de

This waa really a little folk's danoe and
was ao conducted atriotly. It was all in-
nooenae and ohild-like and was highly
enjoyable to witness, or even to partici
pate in. The oooasion passed off in un
alloyed pleasure, mirth and aprightlineas.
It waa “children" through and through,
and no guiae of naughty maturity oould
be discerned. It waa calculated to make
older onaa wonder if it oould ever have
been “thus” with them, aad to wish that
they oould, at all times of life, be as pure
and as free from guile. It was refresh
ing, and a sermon indeed powerful. Well
might it oauae these reflections to gray
hairs, the fond memories of “remember.

CROP ESTIMATES*
The New York Commercial and Finan
dal Chronicle ot the 10th inat., has the
following: *'The free reoeipta of the past
thres weeks have served to moke larger
orop estimates popular; in foot4t seems
almost impossible now to aooept ss correct
the totals onrrent a short time sinoe, and
should thisfree movement oontinne longer
than another week, a still farther advance
in estimates would appear to be warrant
ed. At present, however, onr advices in*
dioate that (eapooially in the Mississippi
valley) there Is to be a very material fall
ing off in reoeipta soon after tbe middle
of the month. Snob advioes find some
confirmation in the length of the three
laat pioking seasons over thst seotion. In
the fall of 1874, all the ootton was
pioked from ubont November 10th to Do*
camber 1st, and, as a resnlt, the crop
reached 3,833,000 bales. In 1875, pioking
continued in fall foroe down to Christmas;
and, after tbe Christmas holidays,in many
districts they went to work again and
oontinaed at it until it was necessary to
plough np the ground for the new crop;
os e result, the lest orop resohed 4,009,000
boles. This year (1870) pioking was fin-/
tolled (over a considerable seotion) on or
before the 1st of Deoember, others con
tinued up to the 10th to the I5th of De
cember, and a very small proportion
dragged on to Deoember 25th; since the
holidays no ootton of any consequence
haa been gathered.
