An express offloe has been established at
Chattahoochee on our river, with John P.
Jordan as agent.
Jackson oounty Florid* has $20,000
of oonnly scrip outstanding. What has
become of the $6,000 collected for ooon-
ty purposes and turned over seems to be
a mystery. The commissioners propose to
the scrip holders, to issue interest-bear
ing bonds, payable in ten years, and take
tbe sorip at fifty oenta on tbe dollar.
They think by this means a sinking fund’
oan be raised every year to pay one
tbonsand dollars and the interest, and that
the tax will not be as greet as now. Be
sides, the sorip thereafter issued, will be
worth dollar for dollar or nearly so. They
must do this or lose all.

been appointed Snrgeon of the Lunatio

As every one knows, the oommons are
a great benefit to onr citizens in the way
of grazing their cattle. A great many
cows are there every day and depend en
tirely upon the grounds for their food.
We have notloed that these oommons are
beooming very non-produotive and tbe
oause is, as many know, and as was sug
gested to us by a gentleman, who asked
us to mention tbe matter in our oolumn*,
that tbe entire deposits of horses and
cattle are raked up and oarriet away by
different persons. This of course pre
vent* the grounds from beooming enrioh-
ed. It is quite an important matter and
Oouucil should take immediate steps to
remedy the matter.
A BOW IN THE SIXTH WAND.
It oocurred yesterday afternoon ^p-
tween some white and oolored men at a
disreputable plaoe. Two white men were
assaulted with words by two negroes and
one of tbe former resented the insults by
beating np one of the latter with a pair
of bmB kuuoks. The other negro be
came (pretendingly) very mnoh enraged,
and swore violence upon “the man that
struck Billio Patterson,” and fired off bis
pistol once or twice. These two drunken
negroes went from a honse owned by one
of them, situated on the square sur
rounded. by Few, Early, Jackson
and Forsyth streets, to the other looality
of equally as bad reputation. The former
plaoe is said to be of late a great reaort
for drinking, oarouaing, ehicken fighting,
gambling and other things of like nature.
It is a foul den, we are told.

Saturday, at Neal’s Landing, Dr. Free

that time Belser was in a dying oondition
and was doubtless dead before tbe boat

except what is mentioned.
Dr. Freeman lately moved to Neal's

went from Texts. Mr. Belser lives at
the landing, or in that community.
No Such Incident Happened Here.

D? TUTTS PILLS
Meet the wants of those who need n safe and
reliable medicine. The immense demand which
has so rapidly followed their introduction is
evidence that they do supply this want* and
proves them to be
THE MOST POPULAR PILL
ever funmhed the American people. The high
est medical authorities concede their superiority
over all others, because they possess alterative*
tonic, and healing properties contained in no
other medicine. Being strongly Anti-Bilious,
they expel all humors, correct a vitiated state of
the system, and, being purely vegetable, they
do not, like other pills, leave the stomacn and
bowels in a worse condition than they found
them, but^ on the contrary, impart a healthy
tone and vigor before unknown.
