HHzlohnrst, of Macon, was badly hurt Tuesday by a fall from a horse. —Mr. Adam Johnston has resigned the Chairmanship of the County Democratic Executive Committoe, of Hiohmoud county. —A negro near Quitman, who had at tempted to rape a lady, was killed while attempting to escape from his pursuers. Served him right. A custom prevalent in Maoon is when a young man's adorable steps off with an other fellow, his friends considerately sit down and apprise him of tho faot in n pensive noto wrapped in crapo. —Friday morning, near Trenton, as the section hands on section No. 2 of A. and C. U. K. were going out to work, a negro man fell from the lever oar in front, and was run over and instantly killed, Mr. Handy Faulk, of Irwin county, killed a doer near tho Willocoochee river a few days ago that measured four feet high and six feet long, and Weighed, after be iug butchered, two hundred pounds. —Congressman Hon. J. H. Blount ap pointed to West Point Mr. G. Simmons, the cadet from tho Sixth Goorgia Die trict. He is a Hon of Hon. T. J. Sim mons, ex-President of the Sate Senate. —On last Wednesday night the saw and grist mill of Messrs Bozeman & Lewis, two and a half inilos northwest of Quit man, was completely destroyed by iiro, together with 32,000 feet of lumber. Loss $1,200. —Governors Drew' and Colquitt are an- nouucod to review tho Florida and Geor gia troops expected at the fair at Thomas- ville, Ga., on the 23d of Oetohor. There will also bo shooting rnatohos between the rillo teams of the two States. —Tho Board of Commissioners of Floyd county, on Saturday last, assessed the tax for oounty purposes at sixty cents ou the $100. The State tax is fifty cents, which makes tho State and county $1.10 on the $100, throe cents higher than last year, —Tho following aro the appointees to tho West Point Military Academy from this State : Cadet Erwir, of Savannah Cadet Carrington, of Milledgeville; Cadet Trippe, of Augusta; Cadet Forsyth, of At lanta; Cadet Hubert, of Cartersville; Ca det llall, of Americus; Cadet Hollis, of Nownan; and Cadet Hodgson, of Athons —The officers of the army stationed at. Atlanta have raised a fund sufficient to purchase tho plot of ground upon which Gouoral McPherson was killed. Tho spot haB boon marked with a Parrot gun firmly sot in tho ground, and the lot has boon in closed with a substantial iron fence, The trees whioh grow in the plot still bear marks of shot. —The State Fair is going to be such poor “shop” that they aro trying to raiso monoy to import a fast horse to Bhow as an agricultural product of Goorgia. They want $2,500, and wo hoar haven’t a thou sand in money yet, nor anvtbing like it. All who nttend that fair will be worse sold than at the former store advertising exhibitions. Nelson Tift was accepted by largo majority, and tho fair grounds are to bo tho boautiful site on Flint river bordering tho northern limits of tho city, Tho tract consists of thirty- five or forty acres, with a wide stroet all rronnd, and in a most desirable place for suoh use. We congratulate tho association upon this beginning. —For tho benefit or the father Josiah Holland, of Midvilie, Burk county, Ga, we publish tho following in tho hope that it may lead to tho reoovory of his lost child: In tho year 18C5, my wife, Polly Ann Holland, ran away from Burke coufl ty, Georgia, with a man by the name of A. L. llnthoock, and carried with her my daughter, Emma Virginia Holland, born in February, 18G2, and now about fifteen years of ago. The child was of florid complexion. Description of the mother of tho child is as follows: Aged thirty- nine years,born and raised in Burke ooun ty, Goorgia,^complexion light, gray eyes, light hair, about fivo foot aud six iuches high. Tho moetiug was hold in tho speaking pavilion, at which a medal was presented to Maj. Thomas G. Jones, of Montgomery, Ala., lato of tbe Confodorato sorviee, by Gen. W. P. Hiohardson, of this plaoo, in bo~ balf of tho votorans of Massachusetts. Maj. Jones will bo rouiemboroa as orator at tho momorial serviees to tho Confed erate dead at Montgomery in April souio years sinco, on which occasion his nttor- aneos iu favor of a policy of oouciliation wore so strong, and his declaration of patriotism woro so marked that tho Massachusetts soldiers determined to prosent him with a medal in commemora tion thereof. The donors seiootod tho Marietta re-union as the time and place for the presentation, and chose Gen. W. P. Hiohardson to make tho presentation, which he dul this morning, according to programme, in a very ueat speech. Maj. Jones responded eloquently and fooliogly and was warmly welcomed by tho on- thiiHiastio audience. Procuring another, ho continued the pur suit and found his boat at Cedar Point. Landing there, ho trackod the negro and girl a distance of five milos, to Clapboard crook, whoro ho lost all trace of them, and onmo to this city yesterday to got as sistance for continuing tho search. Tho reptile was lying in a elnstor of bushes, nnd the mower catchiug it on his blade threw :t behind him, and it fell square into tl.e bosom of Mr. Bugoss, some distauoo off, and before ho could jork it away he was bitten on tho broast. Dr. Soott was op portunely in tho neighborhood, and call< d in and proscribed besides tho usual anti dote for poison, whiskey, a poultice of red oinions. The application of this poultice will effectually extract poison of snakes without the use of whiskey even. The onions are to be heated and mashed into n ponltioo and applied. The Doctor has heard of many cures by the onion treatment, and says that tbe virtue of tho onion in poisons is admitted by regular physicians. Mr. Burgess is doing well.
