JL HORSE’S INTELLIGENCE Awio of o Oaab Rioie Ttaoft !■ o Homio Be lug Wool A Bo lolled Btotoi. Airw York Hud. A horse which bad been in posses sion of the Peers ftrnily, in F ah kill. Pa., for twenty years, and which was famous for the almost human intelli gence he fnquenily displayed, died recently. During ihe last few years oi the hcrse'B life be hsd been per mitted to run at liberty, but wee fre quently bitched up to haul the dead bodies of cattle ir horses that died on the farm to a place near the Delaware river, where they were burled. The old horse always stood near and watched the burials with great inter est and attention. Borne time ago thlB horse lali sick. One day he w< s missed from an in closure where he was being cared for. A sesich was tun he for him, and be was Anally found lying dead on the spot where he had hauled the dead bodies of so maDy of biB kind. As the plaoe was out of the way of the dead horse’s usual haunts, and as be had never been known to go there except when driven there with some dead animal, no one who knew the horse believes that be did not seek the spot, feeling that he was about to die, and to save the trouble of bant ing his dead body there to be buried Among the inN'anoes told of his intelligence are the following: Lale one night members of the family that ewued him were awakened by a great noise on the plezza of the bouse. There was a loud neighing of a horse and a heavy stamping on the piazzA Ooor. One of the Inmates of the house went 10 the door. There was the old horsestamplugand kick ing and neighing with all his pow er. The discovery wi s made that an outhouse near the dwelling was on Are. The old horse had ‘given the alarm, and a disastrous Are was pre vented. Oue spring there was a A tod in a stream on the i lace A blind horse beloi gtng to a neighbor got out of bis pasture, and wanderiDg down the swollen stream in some way got into the water. It sworn about in a circle, and waa unable to reach either shore No one could render any aid to the poor aulmal, and there seemed no es cape for It from drowning. The ol t Pettrs horse came along while tl e blind horse was struggling in the water, and after a moment’s survey of the situation, jumped in. He swam out to the blind horse, and headed it t fl as it turned to make its usual cir cle, thus Keeping I s head pointed toward the shore as it swam. By beading the blind horse Arsl on oue siieand then on the other, he guided it safely to shoie. TALKING ABOUT WHISKY. The Kitten gllleulioi V,» tbs Himia Bud,. Boston Herald, An interesting lecture was deliver ed last evening in Chapel hell, Tre- mont leuiple, by Mr Edwin F Kim ball, of the Cbauncy hall school, ou "Alcohol, and Its Edicts ou the Hun an B< dy.” The lecturer was Introduced by Mr George Kempton to a fail-sized audience, and at once commenced ti e explanation of the manufacture of alcohol from fermen tation and distillation, with its uses indiftennt forms in manufactures, and its properties and edec's on the human body. By experiments ef diAerent kinds, he Showed the "metheds used in miking alcohol, and t.iowed Its eflict when mixed with resin, oil aud the white of au egg, the latter mixture forming al bumen, ol which the main parts ol the human body are composed, severseighths being water. As to the eflicis on the human body, the lecturer said that alcohol takes wa r from every substance with which u comes in control, aud the actiou and effect of liquors are tu proportion to tt»e quantity of alcohol contained In thtrn. The brain, although only eue-thlrty-slxth of the weight of the body, geiB from one. Afth to one- tenth of the circulation of the blood Experiments were shown to exem plify the action of aloohul with water, pepsin and chopped meat, with teei in place of water, aud tuen with al cohol in place of water, which show eti that while the former had dissolved the meat in ten hours, the alcohol had only taken the moisture from it and thus indigestion and kindred oomplalnts were caused. He claimed hjjst alcohol drinking lessened the ’^Zniscular power, destroys the blood vessels and the corpueolea of the blood, bringing about bleeding and apoplexy, injures the mucus mem brane all through the body, aud par alyses the nerve matter. He an nounced himself as a prohibitionist, and said it was the duty of ths gov ernment, in view of the great it Jury alcohol was dolDg, to prohibit its im portation or manutaoture. The lec ture was profusely illustrated, and was exceedingly well received by the audience. f*r«u4 of life ftleiar. The Chicago Tribune relates the case of a young man who was regard ed as a phene inenon, because he took ■th sit..i ic all ’.he hcb - , ti.i6iUL.il' monte, and actually devoted himself to her dutlDg the lecture and opera season. Being praised for his unusual attention to his sister, the young man promptly and proudly replied: "No, there’s nothing wonderful or extraordinary about Tt. She is the only woman I know lu whom I have the moat thorough oonAdeuoe. She is always the same, always pleased and affectionate, aud to tell you the caDdid truth, I’m afraid she’ll go aud marry some of those Imitation men around here, and be unhappy all her life. ‘ She has uobody else to look to and I’ll take care she doee uot have o look to anybody else. I suppose some day a genuine man will come along. If he’s a genuine man I won’t object. Until he doeB come, she's good enough for me, and If I ever And as go >d a girl I’ll marry her.” The example is most commenda ble. A young man would do well to seek his sister's society until he finds another lady as gold as bis sister. ■arms, DtklluaM You are allowed a free trial of thirty days of the use of Dr Dye's Celebrated Voltaic Belt with Electric Suspensory Appliances, for the speedy relief and permanant onre of Narvous Debility, loss of Vitality and Manhood, and all kindred trouble#.
