CAVERNOUS GEORGIA- A Uraphle Aeeoant of Mom* Wonder ful i'avea In Manila tieorgla, Oor. Augusta Evening Nows. I herewith render an account of a recent visit to Mitchell and Dacatur counties. I arrived at Pelham, Ga, on March 19 and waa kindly wel comed hy J L Hand, of whose hos pitality I waa the recipient. While there Mr Hand kindly furnished me a horeo and buggy, and i visited Din oatur county to see one of the world’s great wonders. I arrived at Thomas A Barrows', who was on the lookout for me, and after doing Justice to a good dinner, Mr Barrows and 1 struck out for two points of interest We drat reached the Blowing Cave, in Decatur county, Gu. It is situated in a large plantation on a hill, sur rounded by a broad valley, with the exception of the east, which is a little higher than the rim of the cave, and ten miles from Pelham. The rim of the cave is thirty feet east and west and 20 feet north and south, funnel-shaped, about 12 feet d< ep from surface to rim, and has two openings Or mouths, through which it breathes. Its suction is in the forenoon, and it blows out in the afternoon, and the draught is sulll- cieut in the morning to suck in haves, pccket handkerchiefs, or any thing of light weight. Iu the after noon it blows out with equal strength I placed my head to one of Its mouths and heard u noise l.ke the roaring of distant wind. This cave must have immediate connection with the Gulf of Mexico, which one would reason ably conclude is the cause of its res pirations. This cave is the properly of Thomas A Barrows, and he says that he often goea to its mouth of hot evenings In summer, and gets a re freshing brerz?, for if the weather marks 85 degrees, put tire thermom eter at the nmulh of the cave and it will fall to 75 degrees, which shows it has no connection with the dread ed place, and then the breise is pure and healthy. tiou h or thi cave about one mile is a beautiful waterfall, the rim of which is about 24U feet in circum ference, funnel shaped, and is the funnei that reoeivcsa stream of water which spproaciies through a narrow channel, at a depth of 20 feet rrorn the surface of tire land, and pours over a rick into the funnel aboui 40 feet The bottom of this funnel is 25 leet across, anti there have been seen in it an aillga or and a rattle-- BDttke. The water is conveyed from tire funnel by a subterranean pas* age. Tin funnel through which tire, water falls In s on all its sides a beautiful growtli consisting of the lir, oak, hickory, beech, pine, maple, dog wood, magnolia, and ail are beauti fully draped with gray moss that waves iu every lirei z a This place prest nts a beautiful sight—one which I or j ijed hugely Next. I visited the great lime sink, about six miles from PeJbam, and belongs to L O Jack.-ou, of Balubridge. This sink is the receptacle of a large creek, and the bottom is about 20U feet btlow the suirouuding emu- try. There in a grist mill on its verge, and the natural water power would run a vast amount of machinery. The fall of water into the ui> k is 90 feet, which presents a grand eight «h it falls. One can easily go down into tins sink, which is the approach to a great cavern over 100 feet under ground. You have to humble one self to get. iu by crawling about 15 feet, when you e*u rise to your eel aud ualk through a great cave or cavern For quite a dis ance there is a pret y s ream of water ruunit g through tins cave that keeps the air- cool aud nice, hut don't you forget you are down in the ground. It would be u good place to take oyster suppers on a cold winter night. O.i my return to Pelham, Mr Hand proposed to take me to another cave in two miles of Pelham. This one Is on a laige plan tat ion, ami Is a neau tlful funnel shaped cave about 225 feet iu circumfereico and 20 fee deep, and liss two mouths to breath through, at d it was blowing out strong while we were there. Like the other cave, it sucks tire air iu m the morning and b uws it rut in tb evening, and the a r is cool and pleas ant, as at tiie cave m Decatur The trees of this cave aie pine and mag nolia, aud make a bt uuti ul shade This cave is accessible, being ouly two milis from Pelham. The mouths of both these caves are well protected by phosphate rook. There is also a beautiful waterfall within two miles of Pelham. she merely bowed instead of shaking hands with a group of girls, with toms of whom she bad but slight acquaintance, wlt-’u enterlug a parlor at a country afternoon tea They called it “putting on airs," when, in fact, it was their own ignorance of the social necessities of the occasion that was at fault But the provincial young ludlen evidently believed in handshaking as part <f the code of manners Yet, at this same gathering my friend said the young people did not seem to see ai y impoliteness in whispering or g g- gllug In the room, or rudely stariig at any dress that <1 Hired fr- m their own s'yle. Wna a very trying ordeal, too, is the loud-voiced greet ing, where your hand is held and in quiry made a'ter your welfare and teat of y ur family bo as to be heard all over the room If the body motives dotty a proper amount of nutrition, and dsilv expel, the wotb-ou'. parts, health is inu cvr t-iln constquencej but by a suddeu changed weather, the pores of tbe ■ kin may not perform their office wel', and mutters Hre retained which Ph-’U'd have possod eff by that avenue. Atlanta OaOMlai) Atlanta, altbongli in many ro- spoojs regarded as a healthy city, is not unlike all other inhabitable portions of the eurth, in claiming her share of victims of the monarch of all dreaded ailments—blood poison A Constitution man was delegated to investigate some of the most notablo caRes in Atlanta, and in his rounds made the follow ng appalling discoveries: MISS CHAPMAN INTER VIEWED. “My name is Mary Chapman, and I live at the comer of William and Cox streets I iiave been a dread ful sufferer from scrofula and run ning, eating scrofulous ulcers for fix years. Have been waited upon during the time by seven Atlanta physicians, also used various adver tisod remedies, without the least benefit. The eating sores on my neck were a mass of corruption al most down to the bones. My throat became so much affected that I could scarcely swallow, my food lodging in a portion of my threat. I was reduced to 90 pouuds weight, being a mere skele ton. In this condition I com menced the use of BB B, and found great relief in the first botile. ‘‘When I had used five bottles my health had so much improved that the ulcers had all healed, the swelling had subsided, my appetite returned, my skin became active, my strength returned and I gained 44 pounds of flesh. I am now healthy, fat and hearty, and am able to do as much work as anj woman, and feel as happy as a lark.” Hiss Walittc. (J CHlioned Miss Minnie Wallace resides with Mrs George Fickland, 41 McAflee street, and from her own lips tho reporter learned the following ap palling story: Several months ago she became almost totnlly blind and deaf. Her bones became the seat of intense pain, her joints were swollen and painful, and eventually her whole body and limbs became covered with splotches and small sores. To tho reporter she said: “I had blood poison and rheutna tism and before one bottle of B BB had been taken I began to see and hear. When I had completed tho use of six bottles my eyesight and hearing was fully restored, sense of taste returned, all sp'otches disap peared, soreness all healed, and my strength and flesh restored.” Send to Blood Balm Co , Atlan ta, Ga, for their Book of Wonders, free. uii'.aw sf Jew top oo] nxt rd mt CARPETING S TRADE PALACE STILL WITHOUT A RIVAL.
