DAILY ENQUIRER - SUN: COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, FRIDAY MORMNG, OCTOBER 15, 1886,
A REMARKABLE CASE.
Conti'stlnK n Will Mmlo Over Seventy Yearn Ago.
Montgomery Advertiser.
A very interesting and somewhat re
markable ease was argued in the chancery
court in this city yesterday. The case is
from the Lowndes county chancery court,
and was argued at chambers before Chan
cellor Foster.
Over seventy years ago an old gentle
man named Arthur Bell died at his home
in Monroe county. He was wealthy and
left a large estate. He left a will, in which
he bequeathed all his property to his son
Ichabod. who was an only child and at
that time a very small boy. The will pro
vided, further, that in case the boy died
before he attained his majority the prop
erty should fall to the relatives of the de
ceased Arthur Bell. A short time after
his father’s death, and while yet a child,
the boy Ichabod was kicked on his head
by a colt, sustaining injuries that resulted
in the total loss of his mind. He re
mained a mental imbecile through life
and died this year at the ripe old age of
seventy-six years. In life he was looked
after and cared for by guardians, who also
kept the estate in pretty good shape. Some
valuable lands belonging to the estate are
situated in Lowndes county, and when he
died Ichabod Bell left a large amount of
property.
The matter now in contest, and which is
to be settled by the present suit in chan
cery, is the question as to whether the
property left by Ichabod Bell shall fall to
the devisees of Arthur Bell or the next of
kin to his idiot son, the late Ichabod Bell.
Capt. W. L. Bragg, of this city, repre
sents the parties who claim the property
as the devisees of Arthur Bell, and Girard
Cook, Esq., of HayneviUe. is counsel for
the contestants, who claim that the proper
ty rightftilly belongs to the nearest rela
tives of Ichabod Bell.
The case is exceedingly interesting, and
{ iromises to bring out some nice points of
aw.
free Trade.
The reduction of internal revenue and
the taking off of revenue stamps from Pro
prietary Medicines, no doubt has largely
benefited the consumers,as well as relieving
the’ burden of home manufacturers. Es
pecially is this the case with Green’s Au
gust Flower and Boschee’s German Syrup,
as the reduction of thirty-six cents per
dozen, has been added to increase the size
of the bottles containing these remedies,
thereby giving one-fifth more medicine in
the 75 cents size. -The August. Flower for
Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint, and the
•German Syrup for Cough and Lung trou
bles, have perhaps, the largest sale of any
medicines m the world. The advantage of
increased size of the bottles will be greatly
appreciated by the sick and afflicted, in
every town and village in civilized coun
tries. Sample bottles for 10 cents remain
the same size. oct.1,2 d&wly

An old man of much political influence
had been trying to get his nephew ap
pointed in the postofflee department, and
up to last Friday had only succeeded in
getting promises. That day he went, in
again to see the gentleman he had Oeeu
talking to previously, and his nephew was
with him.
“Good morning,” he said, curtly; “what
about that place?"
“You shall have it, sir. You shall have
it. Coino around to-morrow and we’ll fix
the thing. I’tn very busy to-day.”
“So you’ve been telling me every day for
a week.”
.“But I mean what I say. I promise you,
now, it shall be done.”
“John.” said the old man turning to his
nephew, “you hear what this man says?"
John nodded.
“All right, John,” continued the uncle,
“you just take that promise of his and put
it on ice, so’s we can see if it will keep till
to-morrow.”
John went to work this morning.
Tin* Best ltlifiimntir Medicine.
M.\ J. W. Marshall, a merchant in
Haynsville, and well known in Houston
county, Ga., has this to say about the “best
of all rheumatic remedies:”
“I have been a sufferer from rheumatism
for 28 years: I am now sound and well;
six bottles of Swift’s Specific cured me. I
write this in the hope that others may
profit by my experience.”
Another Snil'crcr*
For six years I was afflicted with chronic
rheumatism, part of the time perfectly
helpless, not being able to walk at all. For
a while my leit leg was drawn backward
until nearly doubled. It had a number of
running sores on it. Physicians gave me
no relief. I tried every patent medicine
recommended for rheumatism, being a
druggist myself, but to no profit. At last I
'’ommeneed the use of Swift’s Specific. At
first it seemed to make me worse. My leg
was much swollen, and I had a physician
to lance it. 1 soon began to improve. Af
ter taking less than a dozen bottles of
Swift’s Specific, I found myself sound and
well for the first time in six years. That
was live months ago ; 1 have felt no symp
toms of the disease since. I believe Swift’s
Specific to be the best of all rheumatic
remedies made. 1 commend it to all who
are suffering as I have suffered.

The Verdict I niiiiliiiouH.
W. D. Suit, druggist, Bippus, Ind., testi
fies: “lean recommend Electric Bitters as
the very best remedy. Every bottle sold
has given relief in every case. One man
took six bottles, and was cured of rheuma
tism of 10 years’ standing.” Abraham
Hare, druggist, Bellville, Ohio, affirms:
“The best selling medicine I have ever
handled in my 20 years’ experience, is
Electric Bitters.” Thousands of others
have added their testimony, so that the
verdict is unanimous that Electric Bitters
do cure all diseases of the liver, kidneys or
blood. Only a half dollar a bottle at Bran

Excitement ill Texas.
Great excitement has been caused in the
vicinity of Paris, Texas, by the remarkable
recovery of Mr. J. E. Corley, who was so
helpless he could not turn in bed, or raise
his head; everybody said he was dying of
consumption. A trial bottle of Dr. King’s
New Discovery was sent him. Finding re
lief, he bought a large bottle and a box of
Dr. King’s New- Life Pills; by the time he
had taken two boxes of Pills and two bot
tles of the Discovery, he was well and had
gained in flesh thirty-six pounds.

In this limited space we name some figures that can be quoted by no house that

demand ids money or his goods. Next day they eome from a big, proud shop, good
