Cuban affairs are attracting much at

dispatches. The matter was undoubt-

The Consul General at Havana wants

Tbe execution of the eight students

There is no excitement at the Spanish
Legation here. Minister Roberts has no
communication from his own or our gov
ernment indicating other than a pacific
solution <>: the pending misunderstand
ing. -J .
. It is said that Grant laughed at Robe
son’s report of his guns now in Wcst In
dia waters. They are popguns in calibre
and inferior in number to tbe Spanish
fleet.
It is supposed at the Navy Department
that the Terror having been ordered to
Havana yesterday, will arrive there to
day. The Worchester, now at Boston,
will be the flag ship of the North Atlantic
fleet, Admiral Lee having, it is said, left
Washington to-day to join her. The
Swatora, now at Norfolk, cannot imme
diately join the squadron, as the Captain
reported this morning that she first re
quired repairs. The Severn is nominally
in commission, but will not be fitted for
sea. The Worchester takes her place.
The Kansas and Nipsic will soon join the
squadron. The Shawmut, which recent
ly started for Brazil, will be recalled for
temporary duty in tbe squadron..
The authorities here do not apprehend
any difficulties in Hav’ana with American
citizens, but say tbe return of the squad
ron to the North Atlantic is in accord
ance with the usage, to have a force con
venient for the protection of our citizens
should necessity for it occur. They look
upon the recent disturbances at Havana
as merely of a local character and signifi
cant of the assumed import of the volun
teers against the Spanish authorities.

RECORD FOR FAST TWENTY-FOUR HOURS.
The low barometer which was in the
South Atlantic States Tuesday afternoon,
has moved noVth-eastward, with rapidly
diminishing pressure, and is now a storm
center near, the Bay of Fundy. The
high barometer ou the Upper Missouri
has extended its influence, eastward, to
New York and the South Atlantic coast,
but is central in Wisconsin. The tem
perature has fallen in the Gulf States,
where the northwest winds are veering to
northeast. Winds have generally abated
on the upper lakes, but have backed
to the northwest, and increased to brisk
iu the middle States. Snow has fallen
at most points east of Kentucky and
Michigan, and in New England, and is
now reported in Colorado. The tem
perature has fallen at the Rocky Moun
tain statious. The barometer has risen,

Died—last Wednesday of. cancer—Mr.
Amos Nobles, of Monroe county.
M. AJ Potts is still acting as Ordinary
of Monroe county, says the Advertiser,
notwithstanding his resignation was sent
up to acting-Governor Conley on Wed
nesday. It is understood that several
Democrats have petitioned for the ap
pointment, but as Potts tkUf in Atlanta
on Tuesday, and George--Clower in For
syth day before yesterday, it is probable
that! Conley will pretermit an expression
of preference until this brace of patriots
unite in a recommendation. Conley cer
tainly has not the hardihood to reject
the resignation. tlfr./
