A cyclone passed in about two miles ,°f Conyers on last Saturday evening.— \We have been unable to hear of the ex tent of the damage done. Though we ,learn thatseveral of the out houses as well as the dwelling of Mr John Bartlettof this , county were considerbly injured by the storm. The top of bis and ive ling was blown off. His crib; lot fences, stable, Jfcc were blown down, and his place consider bly injured and torn up. His son, a young man, was blown against a tree and brused and hurt, though not seriously. This is the third or fourth vesilation the storm king has made in this vicinitv. Col. W m. T. Huson lias been spending several days in Atlanta this week. He is there ostensibly to watch ;be senate i . contest ; but in rea’ity, to attend one of cupiu s courli. The commissions for our newly elec ted county officers have come. No house has been broken into this week, so far as we have heard. Both the Covington papers are oppos ed to Judge F. D. Dismake being Solic itor General of the Flint Circuit. You had as well cease your opposition, breth reu, as the thing is already did. The child is born and its name is Fred. Dr. Culver lias bought out the drug interest of Mr. J. W. Crum of this place. Si Ilawkins, of the Covington Enter prise, has been troubled very much late ly by the Gypsies. The Covington Star is in favor of the electoral bill reported by the joint com mittee. Rockdale County Court. Was in session on Monday and Tuesday of this week—Judge G. W. Gleaton presiding, T. J. Christian, Solicitor. Judgments were rendered in several civil cases, where there were no issuable defenses filed on oath. The criminal docket was taken up. and Bose Allen, col., was tried for the offense of assault and battery, (charged with striking a white boy with a wagon whip) and fined ten dollars and costs, or in default work in chain gang six months. T. J. Christian, Solicitor, for the State ; Barton & Barton tor defend ant. Jordan Ham, col., was then brought to the bar of jestis, charged with steal ing two bushels ol taters. A jury was demanded, and through their foreman, Mr. K. H. Hollingsworth, brought in a | verdict of guilty, and was sentenced to j pay a fine of twenty five dolla-s and all costs, or to work on chain gang ten months. Defendant’s counsel gave no tice of intention to certiorari. County Solicitor Christian and A. C. ferry for prosecution, and Barton & Barton attor neys for defense.
