The Commissioners ot the town of
Conyers met at their chamber on Mou
day night—Present: Hons. S. F, SjKier,
Chairman, T. H. Bryaus, J. W. Laug
ford, and W, E, Treadwell Couooilmeti;
Judge Joseph Ileagan, Clerk, and P. G.
McCullough, Marshal. After the gener
al routine of business was gone through
with, lion. A. A. Zaoliry was elected to
fill the vacancy caused by the removal
of Captain N. W. Maddor. After hi*
election, he was called on for a speech,
and responded in a few appropriate re
marks. The Council did a graceful and
grateful thing in electing the “will bus*
ter. Wo congratulate him. He is one
of the City Fathers.
There is a young married man iu Con
yers that wants to sell a baby cradle,
lie ought to be made to give bond and
security that he will never need it before
he is allowed to dispose of it.
lion. W. L. Peek introduced a bill in
the llouso of Representatives on Monday
to change the line between this and
Newton comity. We understand that
the lice will bo changed so as to run as
follows: Commencing at the mouth of
Big Haynes creek and ruuing in a straight
line to Salem camp ground; thence to
the nearest point oil Peach Stone Shoals
road ; thence along said roid to Peacli
Stone Shoals.

Heed’s, editor of Courier, on Tuesday
evening was a very pleasant affair indeed

It does seem to us that when any
question is to be discussed or acted on
by any body of individuals that every
one in ‘crested in the objects of that
meeting ought to lie notified and invited
to be present. A few men, say thirty or
forty, are not ltockdale county by any
means. Let the people say what they
want.
A bill has been introduced to ebauge
the time of holding the Superior Court
of Pike and Rockdale counties. The
bill provides that the 4th Mondays in
February aud August as the time to hold
Rockdale court. We hope, it wou’t take
effect till after the spring term.

Mr. J. S. Anthouy of this place died
at his residence ou Monday morning the
sth iust. He had been in bad health lor
some time and his death was not unex
pected. He leaves a and
numerous friends to mourn his loss.

yers for two or three days of this week,
snatching sweet strains from bis raeledi

A Meeting.
About forty citizens of this
county met at the Court House in Con
yers on Tuesday and, after electing offi
cers and appointing committees, &c. t
passed a resolution requesting Hon. W.
L. Peek to introduce a bill in the Leg : s
lature'to abolish the civil jurisdiction of
the County Court of this county. We
were notjpresent, but ‘understand they
styled themselves “We, the citizens of
Rockdale county, etc.”

At a meeting ot the citizens of Rock
dale, held this day at the court House,
Elias Woolley Esq., was callled to the
chair, and W. P. Reed requested to act
as Secretary.
Squire Woolley stated the object of
the meeting to be the consideration ot
tho present county court act and the pro
[nitty of amending it.
Dr. J. A. Stewart moved the appoint
ment of a committee of five to consider
the inatti r and import.
The Chairman appointed Col. J. N.
Glenn, and B. F. Carr Dr. J. A. Stewait
A. A. Turner A Jno Browning were also
selected.
After absence ot a few minutes the
Committee returned and though their
Chairman Col. Glenn reported tho follow
ing resolution:
Resolved, by the citizens of Rockdale
in convention assembled that our repre
sentative Hon. W. L. Peek be instructed
to introduce a bill and have it passed
changing the act creating a County
Court tor said County so as to confine
jurisdiction ot said court to criminal
cases alone. The resolution unaninously
adopted.
Oil motion the Secretary was reques
ted to immediately furnish Hon. W.
L. Peek with a copy of the proceed
ings.
On motion the meeting adjourned.
