Deceived and Divorced

l$t. Louis Special to Cincimati Enquirer.]
A sensational divorce suit of the
most extraordinary character caine
np for trial in the St. Louis Circuit
Court a few days since, and was
decided in favor of the offended hus
band. Oa the 2slh of March, IS75,
Frank M. G irdon was married at
the Southern Hotel, in this city', to
Estella G. Gordon, a niece of Judah
P. Benjamin, the ex-rcbel Secretary
of State, now an eminent counselor
of London. The ceremony d:ew
together quite a catitpuny of tin:
friends of Mr. Gordon, a young gen
tleman wealth of and unexceptional
character, and at that time connected
with Dodd, Brown & Co, now with
Chase & Cabot, both prominent firm*
of this city. This bride was a com
parative stranger, having lived in
Neyv.OileJins-prior .to the marriage,
’afY^ikjl^pISue 'f
her acquaintance, and before lie left
her engaged to marry her. Young
Gordon came to St. Louis, leaving
his bride expectant in New Orleans,
she to follow at a date fixed, when
they were to be married here. This
put of the programme was carried
out to the letter, but there was an
unlooked for denouement to the hap
py event of the manipge, for which
the husband was entirely unprepared
and which led shortly afterward lo a
reparation ami a suit for divorce.
A few hours after the marriage
above recorded the bride and groom
retired to their apartments, a suit of
rooms al the Southern, known as the
bridal chamber, and, after seating
themselves for a chat, the husband
was suddenly startled from his pro
priety by the voice of a child in the
next room. He inquired what it all
meant, when his new-made wife pro
duced an infant, and falling at her
husband’s feet begged her husband’s
forgiveness. Imagine his mortifica
tion and surprise when informed that
the child was flesh of her flesh and
bone of her b»>no, whom lie had here
tofore deemed as chaste a3 Diana, as
pure as the snow, and to learn from
her own lips the story of her shame
and the damnable deception she had
practiced upon him by making him
at once a husband and a father.
Hence the divorce granted to Gori
don.
True taste is forever growing,

to the little ones for all cases of coughs
and colds. Only costs 25 cents.
The cash'er looked the replies he
could not speak.
“ I don’t think you could, myself,”
said the inventor; “and now let me
tell you, my name is Jesse IL James,
