Death of Little Pearl•
We regret to announce the death of
thir tender infant which took plaoo at
the residence of Mr. John F. Jinks, on
last Friday morning. Little Pearl
was a bright and beautiful little girl
about If/ months of age, daughter of
Mr. and John F. Jinks, and the
many friends will regret to learn of her

Right to a happier world than this, and
we trust that peace and comfort may
abide with the afflicted parents.
We are sorr^to say that we are
compelled to present to our readers
this week only a half sheet, but we
trust that, no one will take any excep
tion to this as it is our intention to
enlarge the Hekald in our qext issue,
and present to our many readeis
much larger and we trust a more inter
esting paper than haa ever been pttb-
islu'd in Butler before. Having in
view the object of enlarging,we thought
best to publish a half sheet as much
expense would be saved in buying pa
per of the present size which would be
a .surplus on our bonds. With the en
largement of tho Hehalo our ex pens
ses will be greatly increased and we
trust the people of the couuty will give
us a warm support.

This institution has been deprived,
of its President by resignation, Pro
fessor White having bein elected prin
cipal of the High School iu Atlanta
Our people were greatly surprised at
the action of Prof. White, having had
no intimation of it from any quarter
whatever. Indeed we are informed by
Pruf. White that he knew nothing of
it himself uptil after his election to the
place wc have named.
The Board of Stockholders have tak
en and are taking prompt steps to fill
the vacancy occasioned by the resigna
tion of Prof. White. While this is
true however, the friends of the Col
lege can rest assuied that the Board
will not be so much in haste as to
ploy a second-rate man. The pros*«
pects of the institution were uevei
bright as at present and its friends aud
directors will be content with nothing
less than a first-class teacher. We shall

Messrs, Editors:
I attended a union singing at
Bethel Church, in Mac .it oniitj

Ked at ttiy trip. Iltheie ah id

and ] will say if tiaiiuw Chapman,
Abner Chapman, Joe Uaultuev,
Monroe Barker, and I. P. Blue
canuot make up a lively team lor
a singing trip, I know no olliets
who will. Our trip was rendered
more agreeable by the reception of
plenty tif choiap fruit, and finet
nl wateriuolnns, and until we ai-
rired at Shehee’s milt uothing oc
curred to disturb our pleasure.—
There wc found the bridge broken
down. We were behind time, four
miles from church, and were com-
to seek a crossing a ntile
aud a half lower down the stream.
A settlement road was suggested
as the oearost and best. We pro
ceeded a'ong tbe route, hupiug to
save time aud gain distance and
suddenly reaching a negro house,
where our trail ended. He assur
ed us he knew the way to Bethel
Ohurch.
“Tell us the way, won't you?”
“Yes, sab, tuaasah. You jest
go up by tbe corner of the fence,
up dar, and you’ll take dc road I
come last winter when 1 moved
here to die place.’’
“How will we know when we
get to that road?”
“You’ll tiVke er dim road, and
go dat till—”
Good-bye." Wa drove for
ward through the spattering rain,
which began just then to fall We
drove through a forest thick with
uurleibush about a bead high, and
ventuully found a fcoce with no
trace of a road. Upon consulta
tion, we decided if the road the
negro moved along had beett reach
ed, it went in every direction, and
we were left to our own choicu of
routes through the forest. Off wc
Bounded, and finally entered a
road which carried us to the church,
where we found u large crowd wait
ing for our arrival. The surround
ings soon cuused us to forget the
difficulties encountered after leav
ing the mill. A lesson was sung
by the writer, after which we ad
journed for dinner. To say the
preparations for refreshments were
good will not fully meet the case.
I have never seen-it excelled on
suoh occasions—neither in bounty
or excellence. After dinner los-
sons were sung by Mr. I. P. Blue',
Bartow Chapman and the writer,
at the close of which the audience
was dismissed for the dity.
We spent the night with Mr.
John Ogburn, whose hospitality
aud friendly greeting was the nat
ural outgushing of tho soul.
Sunday mernieg dawned, and-
by 9 o’clock a large crowd had con
gregated, and people continued to
arrive until the audience was very
large.—The music w»3 opined by
the writer, and, after intermission,
Mr Sbiry, Jr., led lessons ^cd de
livered an excellent lecturepn mu
sic. He was followed by jlr. I.

One thing more, whatever be the
opinion of men to the contrary,
“the law and the testimony'’ says,

conclude that so far ns God is in
