COVINGTON, GA., DEC. 25, 1894.
THE PASSING OF 1394.
!
The year 1891 is fa-t closing \
I
up its record, and will soon be num
hered with the things of the past.
We bid it farewell without emo¬
tion or'special regret, and Le ave no
sigh at its gating. j I
Let it pass in peace !
In many respects it has been a re
markable year, and will long be re
numbered as a sort of monumental
year of the closing century.
Withal we have much to be
thankful lor, which we have enjoy¬
ed duting the year 1894, and we
can only h >pe that wo may enjoy
the eame blessings during the in
comirg year of 1895,
The hard times, the lotv price of
cotton, and the failure of congress
to enact such good and wholesome
national laws as we need and want,
have all tended to make us restless
an VI .. I. ITT •• n 1 to complain when
we ought to he happy arid content
ed.
The great want of the people of
this country at this time is more
money in their pockets If we all
had that, wo now feel like wo would
be satisfied, and could say good bye
to 1894 with perfect satisfaction.
But we haven’t got the money,
and must learn to ho satisfied,
whether we have everything we
want or not, True happiness at
best is nothing more tangible than a
perfectly contented ir.iod, which wc
may all possess if we will.
Let in, then, enter upon the new
year with a brave determination to
pul hard timos away from us, and
to learn to be satisfied and content
with our condition, be it ever so
humble and bard.
With best wishes lor til I its friends
and patrons, the Star bids the part¬
ing year farewell, and tiu-sts the
new year may hung greater pios
perity and happiness to cur whole
country.
A merry Cbri-ttnas to all.
