AN ARMY WITH BICYCLES.
The army of the future will be
mdunled on bicycles.
It may not bo as terrible as the
Scriptural “arnty with banners,”
but it will be decidedly more active
The bicycle is destined to create a
revolution in the equipment of the
army of the future, and will practb
cally supercede the horse for caval¬
ry service.
An army of well trained bicycle
riders will travel five times as far as
an army of infantry, and more than
three times as far as a corps of cav¬
alry in a day, and ho in better trim
for attacking the enemy at night.
Had Stonewall Jackson’s men
been mounted on bicycles, they
would havo annihilated McClellan’s
army below Richmond before they
ould have reached the shelter of
their gunboats.
An army on bicycles can be
transferred one hundred miles in a
flay with greaterjense than an infan¬
try corps can march 20 miles, and
bo in hotter condition for fighting.
Already the English and French
aimy corps are being trained in tl .0
us« of the bicycle, and in case of a
war, they will no doubt bo used in¬
stead of horses. In these armies
the bicycle drills havo been made a
part of the infantry tactics, and the
mon are drilled in their uso as much
as they are in tho use of fire arms.
There is no doubt but tho army ol
tho futuro will bo mounted on bi¬
cycles, and its celerity of move¬
ment, and its ability to concentrate
rapidly at any given point, will bo
dependent only upon the condition of
the roads, end will be far superior
to infantry or oven cavalry.

The Injunction Desolved.
The United States circuit court, at
Richmond, last week, reversed the de
c sion of Judge Golf, and dissolved the
injunction in the South Carolina regis¬
tration case.
This decision of the circuit court is a
very important one, and re-instates the
registration law of South Carolina,
w hich was declared by Judge Goff to be
unconstitutional.
It puts the law back in force just as it
was before Judge Goff ’s decision, and
makes the registration of voters a per¬
manent and necessary qualification for
exercising their right of suffrage.
The President Will Come.
President Cleveland has accepted the
invitation of the Atlanta exposition
company, and will visit Atlanta October
21, 1895.
lie will not be at the opening, but
will come later.
If. is expected that most of the cabinet
officers and ladies will accompany the
president, and the party will be a very
distinguished one, and will no doubt
add largely to the attractions of the ex¬
position at that time.
