Georgia Temperance.
Pursuant to a call of citizens and pub
lished in the Courier, a number of lead
dug prohibitionists met in the-court house
on last Saturday to elect delegates to the
State leinperance Convention which
meets in Atlanta May Bth.
Colonel R. T. Pickens was called to the
chair, and W. 8. Coleman requested to
act as secretary.
W. S. Coleman explained the object of
meeting as above stated, aud the house
began to discuss the situation in. Georgia.
Some thought the state would overwhelm
ingly adopt a constitutional amendment,
while others professed skeptical beliefs
concerning the adoption of a prohibitory
clause in our consttution by the state at
large. Rev. W. D. Allen offered the fol
lowing resolutions which were adopted:
“Resslved, That it is the sense of this
meeting that the Legislature of Georgia
should subnet to the people an amend
ment to the. Constitution ot thfeSt te,
prohibiting the manufacture and sale of
intoxicating liquors.” %
Dr G. F. Smith of Cartecay and Rev.
W. D. Allen of Eilijuy were chosen dele
gates to the States (.’on vention from this
county.
Considerable interest is being manifes
ted all over Georgia about the coming
convention and its probable course.
Counties from every port of the state are
electing delegates to this convention which
will lie the largest Aent|>erance
ever held in Georgia. An .interesting
programme is expected, and the distin
guished gentleman present will make it
a most important convention.

As couit week approaches the editor
begins to think of the unfortunate who
are harnessed up by the court and hustled off
