Page 10 THE OGLETHORPE ECHO Thursday, October 9, 2025 Legals SHERIFF’S REPORT NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF OGLETHORPE COUNTY: NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on the 4th day of November 2025 an election will be held at the reg ular polling places in all of the election districts of Oglethorpe County, at which time there will be sub mitted to the qualified voters of Oglethorpe County for their determination the following question: () YES () NO Shall the special 1% sales and use tax for edu cation currently in effect in Oglethorpe County be continued for a period of time not to exceed 20 cal endar quarters and for the raising of not more than $13,500,000 for the purposes of (a) paying a por tion of the principal of and interest on the Ogletho rpe County School District (Georgia) General Ob ligation Bonds, Series 2023, in the approximate amount of $1,500,000; (b) paying a portion of the purchase payments under an Equipment Install ment Sale Agreement with First Security Finance, Inc. in the approximate amount of $5,000,000; (c) paying a portion of the costs of acquiring, con structing, equipping, and furnishing (including any demolition that may be necessary) support and athletic / physical education facilities; (d) adding to, renovating, repairing, improving, and equipping ex isting schools and facilities including, but not limited to, vocational/agricultural facilities, gymnasiums, and HVAC facilities; (e) acquiring miscellaneous new equipment, fixtures, and furnishings for the Oglethorpe County School District, including text- books, band instruments, computer technology equipment and software, interactive boards, safety and security technology, food service equipment, school buses, and other vehicles; (f) acquiring real property; and (g) acquiring any other capital prop erty necessary or desirable, both real and personal (collectively, the “Projects"); and (h) paying expens es incident to accomplishing the foregoing? All qualified voters desiring to vote in favor of con tinuing the special 1% sales and use tax for edu cation (the “Sales Tax for Education”) shall vote “Yes" and all qualified voters opposed to levying the Sales Tax for Education shall vote “No." If more than one-half of the votes cast are in favor of continuing the Sales Tax for Education then the Sales Tax for Education shall be continued begin ning October 1, 2027 or the first day of the calendar quarter immediately following the quarter in which the Sales Tax for Education now in effect is termi nated. The maximum period of time for which the Sales Tax for Education shall be re-imposed shall be twenty consecutive calendar quarters. The combined maximum amount of the principal of and interest on the School District’s General Obli gation Bonds, Series 2023, and the installment sale payments to be paid and the cost of capital outlay projects for educational purposes described in the above ballot question to be funded with Sales Tax for Education proceeds shall be $13,500,000. To the extent available, the Oglethorpe County School District may combine available funds from any state or federal governmental source to which the Oglethorpe County School District may be entitled to pay the costs of its capital outlay projects, and it may choose what capital outlay projects to un dertake or not undertake or to delay until additional funding is available to the extent that the proceeds of the Sales Tax for Education are insufficient to complete any of the capital outlay projects. Plans and specifications for the capital outlay proj ects described in the above ballot question have not been initiated and bids have not been received. Depending upon acquisition and construction costs and available funds, the Oglethorpe County Board of Education may add to, modify, or delete specific projects. The several places for holding said election shall be at the regular and established voting precincts of the election districts of Oglethorpe County, Geor gia, and the polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the date fixed for the election. The last day to register to vote in this election shall be October 6, 2025, through 5:00 p.m. Those residents of Oglethorpe County qualified to vote at such election shall be determined in all re spects in accordance with the election laws of the State of Georgia.
