Captain Rob rut W. Pooler, an old cit izen of Savannah, and for mmy years a representative in the State Legislature, died very suddenly on Christmas morning, ut bis residence in Savannah. The bill creating the office of Lieuten ant General lias passed the U. S. Senate by a vote of 30 to 12. The steamer Atlantic sailed from New York on the 25th ult. carrying out Judge Mason, minister to France, aud Governor Seymour, minister to Russia. A party of fifteen hundred emigrants from Oregon, have been lost on the plains. Many of them starved to death. George Yonge, Eop, present Super intendent of the Stale !.!•♦ 1, has been ap pointed Superintendent of transportation for the Georgia Hoad, in place of F. C. Arms, ID j, who has accepts! the place of Caief Engineer, oa the Savan nah River Valley Railroad. —Miriella Advocate. Gr.N. Eisnor Resigned. — We learn from the Chattanooga Advertiser that Gen. Bishop has resigned his office of Agent of transportation on the State Road. Atlanta Intelligencer , Dec. 22. The cattle trade of Texas is gro,wi g into considerable importance. During the season forty thousand head of beeves crossvd the NTewss at Bj-tuiitaat, on their way to New Orleans Navy Yard at Brunswick.— Mr. Sew ard, representative of the first district of Georgia, in Congress, has introduced a bill to establish a Navy Yard at Bruns wick. It is said that Brunswick has the best harbor, next to Pensacola, on the Southern coast. The bill was referred to the committee on Naval Affairs. Gov. Foote, having let down in Missis sippi, has withdrawn from all further as pirations for public office in that State, and it is said intends to try his fortune in California. We think the Governor will find that State rather Democratic for him to thrive in. Increase of tiie Navy.— In the House of Representatives on the 20th ult., Mr. Bocoek, from the committee on Naval Af fairs, introduced a bill authorizing the construction of six first class steam frigates, appropriating three millions of dollars; the vessels to be built by contract or at the U. S. Navy Yards, as the Secretary of the Navy may elect. Referred to a committee of the whole ou the state of tlie Union.
