GRIFFIN LYCEUM. Hie members of the Lyceum are reques ted to meet on this ( ThursdayNevenitig at the ofliee of L R Daniel, Esq. Fire. About 1 o’clock, A. \f., yesterday tuorning, our citizens were aroused by t lie cry of fire. On reaching the spot, a *tna!J building on the corner of the allev of Second street, used by Dr. M. S. Thomson as a stable, was discovered to he in (lames, which soon spread to the adjoining bu'filings, consuming Dr. Pye’s ofiice Dr. RosseveU’s residence, and all the buildings on Dr. Thomson’s lot to Mulberry st. One of the painful incidents connected with this part of the conflagra tion, was the burning of a horse, who af ter being turned out of his stable ran frantically backwards and forwards through the flames, until he dropped ex hausted in the alley and there was con sumed. 1* rum Dr. Thomson’s corner the fire extend'd down Mulberry street, destroying a two story house occupied and owned !<y L. At this point, we v ere in great hopes the conflagration would have been stayed; but in despite of a good deal of energetic, but desultory effort, it extended to the handsome build ing ronstructed by the Central U K. “Company, for a branch bank, but lately -purchassed In the Professors of the Bo tanic College. And be it further enacted, That when the said Board ol Commissioners shall return their awards, it not appealed from, or when such ver dict shall he rendered, the claimant shall be paid on the Governor’s order, by the Treasurer of the Slate, from Ihe lund to be raised under this Act.— His Excellency, the Governor, is hereby author ized to issue Bonds of the State of Georgia for such an amount and to such an extent, a? he mav find necessary to pay the claimants, that such Bonds shall he in sums or amounts ollivc hundred j dollars each, he payable ten years after date, within | lerest at t'.e rate of six per centum per annum, pay able semiannually according to the coupons or eat, warrants annexed at Snvannnh or at Augusta. And be it further enacted,That should the award of said Commissioners he, to make the State liable for more than filr.v cents in the dollar of the outstanding bona fide liabilities ot the Bank of Darien, allowed by the Commis-ioners, or should any claim be allowed to fake tls pro-rata by said Commissioners, that tbe Governor should bjfieve ought not to be allowed, then and in either of said cases, the Goveruot i3 directed and required to make said putpeal from the award in any such case, in conformity with the terms ol this Act, ami the appeal an I decision from any one case which shall settle the principle for all, shall he sufficient and the Governor is also directed to take the judg ment ofthc Superior Court of Baldwin county fid the Supreme Court for final judgment, if the judg ment of said Superior Court shall not he in accord dance with the requirements ami directions of this section.
