committee to draft such resolutions as
wonld express their bereavement, const-
qaent on the death of our brother, Col.
Wm. M. Brown. In compliance there
with we submit the following
REPORT:
Col Wm. M. Brown was a resident o
Marion county, and died suddenly ii
Americas on the morning of the 29th o
April, 1870, in the G3d year of his age. .
The death of onr brother was a sad am
•nysterions one, tho cause of which n
known only to the great “I Am.” With
in a few hoars of his death ho was in tb
vigor of manhood, but death nuddeni.

not permitted by Providence to breath
his last in the peaceful abode of his owi

fectionate companion and loving daugh

brethren.

At this stage of tho proceedings things
looked squally. Counsel for dofemlante-
moved a nonsuit, to contiuuo, to squash
the whole concern. W. J. Boswortli, the
immutable and hitherto immovable organ
of the court, wept bitterly, observing
which the court exhorted the plaintiffs to
relent, but the Major clung to principal,
costs and 2} per cent. Ho stood the
pressure like a hero, so much for being a
man of nerve and a countryman of Sir
Walter 8co:t.
While the court was about to promul
gate its decision and instruct the unwill
ing bailiff to sell tbo last cratch tliat
supported tho unfortunate cripple, and
levy unnatural and uncomfortable attach
ments against the legs of tho unwary de
fendant—while tho court was about to do
this, aud only bound for a moment to
suppress its emotion—while the assembled
multitude waited in breathless anxiety,
Wiley Chambless rushed upon the scene
vith a long bill of particulars by way of a
big account vs. tho Major, which account
he kindly placed at tho disposal oi the
counsel for tho Goats. Here was easy I
egress from the annoying situation—here !

Fjre.—Wo regret to learn that the
dwelliug-lionee, kitchen and smoke-house,
together with the furniture, clothing and
provisions of Mr. 8. E. Hart, of Schley
conntv, were totally destroyed by fire on
Wednesday night last, (11th inst.,) about
11 o’clock* Not even acltango of cloth-
saved. Mr. Augustus Hart, son
«f 8. Hart, had to go to Ellaville in his
night clothes to get clothing for himsell
and the rest of tho family. The family
were all asleep when it was discovered
that the house was burning, and the child-
narrowly escaped with their lives.—
Tho fire originated in the hall of tin-
dwelling-house, and was no doubt tb*
vork of an incendiary. Tho loss is es
timated lietween five and six thousand
dollars.
