The Lucknow Witnc** says:
“Among the children in the Secun-
dra Orphanage are two boys who were
rescued from the wolves bv whom they
bad been adopted alter the inanuer of
S mulus and Remus in olden time.
c Rev. Mr. Erdhardt gives an in
teresting account of these boys in his
report: ? -
«■ “ ‘Ameug the new-comers was that
unfortunate boy, who had been burn
ed out of a wolf's den, and who caused
so much interest and inquiry. It may
rave me some letter-writing if I state
in this place that the poor boy was
never happy among us. Whether he
was home-sick after his former quar
ters and friends, or whether he had
some internal complaint, we could nev
er find out. Neither did he improve
in any way. He kept on living in
dark places, uttered now and then a
half-smothered whine, tore up regular
ly his clothes and his hlnnkct, till lie
fell ill in July. The old wolf-bov was,
however, his friend to the last. When
ever he saw any one coming toward
their room, he shook his hand and
pointed to the poor, sick comrade.
The sick hoy refused all nourishment
from the very beginning, and though
we tried very hard to do our best for
hint, he died" in the end.
" ‘Sanichar, the old wolf-hoy, is
slightly improving. lie imitates
. more what he sees others do, and if
any one joins him in playing at ball
or any other kind of game he makos
the most unearthly noises out of sheer
joy of heart.
•“Whether he will ever learn to
speak I greatly doubt, as he does not
seem to have any memory for sn; •
thing excepting eating.”’

THE PRACTICAL
HOW A OCAKKRKSS STOPPED BOR
ROW .SG.
An exchange says the subject of
borrowing mnHending came up hi the
Course of a conversation with one of
its subscribers the other day, when he
suddenly recollected a reminiscence of
that character that had hapjtencd in
his neighborhood. He said he had a
neighbor whose family was great bor
rowers, but seldom, if ever, returning
the exact amount borrowed. An old
Quaker lady, another neighbor, who
had endured these invasions for a long
time patiently, hit upon a very phiH
' sophical mode of eventually pultiug a
stop to the nui>ance. keeping her
own counsel, the next time her good
muu went to town, he had a separate
and express order to purchase a pound
of the (*est tea, and also a new canister
to pht it in. As he knew she had
plenty of tea, nr.d also a canister, he
was puzzled to determine what the old
Indy wanted of more tea nnd a new
canister, but his questionings and rea
soning elicited nothing more than a
repeLtian of the order.
“Jim, did I not tell thee to get me a
a pound af the best tea and a new
canister? Now go along, and do as I
- bid tkoc."
And go along he did and when he
came home at night, the tea and new
canister were his conqtauions. The old
lady took them from him with an
amused expression on her usuaiiy plac
id features, and depositing the tea in
the canister, set it on the shelf for spe
cial use. It lad not long to wait, for
the borrowing neighbor had frequent
nsc for the aromatic herb. The good
“old lady loaned generously, .emptying
back in the canister any remittance of
- borrowed tons which the neighbor’s con
science inclined her to make. Time
went on, and after something jess thun
the One hundredth time of borrowing the
^neighbor again appeared for ‘ just
another drawing of tea,” when the oft
visited tea canister was brought out,
nnd found to lie empty, and the good
old lady-and obliging neighbor was
just one pound of tea poorer than when
<>) .she bought the new canister, which
now only remained to tell the story.
Then she made a little characterUtic
speech, perhaps the first in her life.
She said f “Thou seest that empty
-id canister. I filled it for thee with a
j,„ pound of my best tea, and I liave lent
it all to thee in driblets, and put into it
•what thou hast sent me in return, aud
none but thyself hath taken therefrom or
a*'*dded uutolt, and now thou seest it
•v-empty; therefore I will say to thee,
’to .j/UW 1 !> ast borrowed thyself out, aud I
., . can lend thee no more!”
