THE CHRISTMAS DAYS
are here. A year is breathing its
last. And the convulsive onei
with which it out iu life of
toil h concomitant with the dying
hopes of those who have seen for
the first time, the hard band of
fated adversity.
Ihe chimes peal forth over the
world in atmosphere, and a
sun,more propitious in its beaming
glances than the smile of any mon
aich, shines forth with warming
and cheering rays to draw from Na
ture the tears that are due to. the de
parting year.
And the same sun will smile
welcome to the child of the new
year when its rosy face peeps out
from behind the clouds of the
storm.
Looking back over the acts hap
pening, and the thoughts of the
twelvemonths just past, we can re
call much to set the mind to think
ing and the heart to acting.
Great men have passed away,
and their deaths have marked this
year in blazing letters on the page
of our country’s annals.
Grant, Toombs, -Josh Billings,
Vanderbilt, Hendricks, and many
other men great for their good
works, for their great acts, for
themselves and mankind, have been
lain away in the tomb, never more
to cause commotions in the social
political, and literary wcilds.
The age has its record of great
deeds in this, as well as in other
years. The death of Victor Hugo,
in France, created a general feel
ing of sorrow throughout the civil
ized and enlightened world.
The blowing up of Hell Gate, in
New York harbor was one of the
greatest achievements of the centu
ry, and the victory in the city of
Atlanta, on the prohibition ques
tion was of no little importance
touching the welfare of the State
at large.
We have had our blessings, and
troubles, trial-, and vexations have
not beeu withhold from us.
Let the angel of Peace hover
over the whole world, wherever the
Christ-child is held in reverence
and love, and let the happy cheer
of good hearts amd ready hands
pervade every home, and may all
nave that trust in each other, anti
exercise that sell denial that will
create a beautiful glow of univer
sal happiness. Should the happy
days of Christmas go by without
all hearts being drawn together by
the loveliness of the occasion—the
birthday of our savior—then will
the opportunities of many to do good
acts be lost forever; many poor,
lonely will bo left, goaded with the
pains of adversity in this life to
die in ignorance and destitution,
and the new year’s sun will cast
his luminous rays on fresh mounds
of earth —brought at last to a lev
el with those whose false pride in
life caused them to neglect the
1 starving and oppressed. W. (). B.

A Forty Year’s Sufferer Cured.
As a specific cure for transient
or chronic Piles, c c c has worked
marvelous cures. Among them is
Mr. Sheilds, of Oakwoods, Tex.,
who had Piles for forty years. He
had utterly despaired of being
helped by medical aid, abandoned
al] labor, and the past year was
subject to fearful spasms, bv which
his body was drawn into contor
tions. On one occasion of his suf
ferings. col. Menning, a friend and
distinguished citizen, ’-appened to
be present, sent for the - c c incdi
icine, and it was applied, giving
instant relief. Mr/ Shields was
before not able to walk or ride, but
after using the cc c medicine for
one week he was out attending to
business as usual. Ke is now free
from the effects of the Piles, and
considers the cc c the grandest
medicine of the avc.
