Gordon County Grand Jury
Presen t me tils.
We the Grand Jurors selected, chosen RDd sworn
for the second week, April Term of the Superior
Court of Gordon County, make the following general
presentments :
We have by our committee examined the books of
both Superior and Inferior Clerks offices, and find
thom neatly kept.. The Jail and Court House are m
bad fix and In oenbexion with committees of first week
present term, ri-eotrimond speedy action by the Inferi
or court, to haVe them repaired. We also call atten
tion of the Ootnt having control of Executive Docket
to the fact that while the book is neaily kept in style,
yet we find numbers of cases standing open, which we
have reason to believe, have been paid. This we be
lieve is owing to a neglect of duty upon the part of of
ficers having papers for collection.
In re nth n to roads, we cannot too strongly urge the
Inferior court, as early as practicable to have them
put in g .otl repair, by having officers where they are
tie ded and work done.
In relation to school funds, owing to the financial
condition of the country and shortness of crops, and
In as much as our recent Legislature has repealed an
act of a former Legislature, setting apart one hundred
thousand dollars of ne earning or Western & Atlantic
Hall lload, for poor School purposes, and the tax which
the Inferio* court is authorized to levy, would not ben
efit any one c inipartaively, we therefore recommend
no tax to b • levied for •-hool purposes.
The Grand Jurors of Gordon county !n doing their
labors of the present week of Superior court, coming as
they ,| 0 from every section of the county, take pleasure
|,i expressing the highest sense ofobiigaiion, the people
of Gordon feel the manifest donation of W. G, I’eabody
to the people of the Southern States for educational

but in the present impoverished condition of the South
ern people, when their r.ec-ssities are so pressing and
heav , every heart lias a manly sense of the nobleness
of soul and hear' that prompts the m paralelled gift
May God bless the donor, anil spare his lifernany years
that he may see the UeneQieUl effects designed by his

Ii taking le veof His honor, we congratulate the

Orders Preparatory to Ktfcls

By reference to the order published
elsewhere in M-day's paper, it will be
perceived that Major-General Pope
has issued his order, directing the com

in his district to “protect! immediately
to divide those Stales into convenient
districts for registration.
We are much gratified that such
prompt and efficient preliminary meas

registration and action have been de
cided upon. They indicate that (Gen

determined that no time shall he lost,
if in his power to prevent it. For this
order. With the view above expressed
of its design, the people temporarily
under his authority, will nnfsi harti fy
