Old Uncle Billy Herring, of the firm ol Herring <s* Leyden, Clothiers, Atlanta, Ga., died in 'bat city, a few days since. N f.oroes Organizing. —A gentleman in this city, says the Atlanta Intelligen ce!•, received a letter from Middle Geor gia, and is informed that the negroes are organizing—that they sat they look for war and are preparing for it. Some of their Radical friends are advising these poor devils to this course, and when they get into trouble will desert them. In order to try and give to the peo ple of Georgia some of that blessed re lief which formed so important and so popular a part in the new Constitution, and to which it owed in a great meas ure, its adoption, a bill lias been passed by both branches of the Legislature, and only awaits the Governors signa ture to become a law, which suspends all levies on and sales of property on account of debts, except those con trac ted since the termination of hostilities. A Chance to bet. —A gentleman who can command the means, serious ly proposed on yesterday to bet 810, 000 that, counting 36 States in the Union and throwing out the votes of the 10 Southern States, Seymour would carry 22 ol the Northern and Western States in the next election, out of 26 that he would mention. In addition to this, he proposed to bet 85,000 tint Seymour would carry half the remain ing 4 of the Northern and Western States. Both bets to be taken togeth er. fie is anxious to invest his money in this way, and has offered the Local ol this paperßloo to get some confident Grant man to take it tip. News Via Washington. —The W ashington correspondent of the Bal timore Gazette, under date of Thursday last, says : An agent of a company of Northern capitalists has returned here from Ma con, Ga., and reports that tie lias closed a contract for the purchase of the old court house in Macon, and that the company will proceed at once to erect upon its site an extensive cotton and woolen factory. A special to the Louisville Journal, from Washington, on the 3d instant, says: “The tidings of the Presidential canvass that come in Irom every part of the country are very cheering. In New Enganld, but particularly in New Hampshire, Seymour and Blair are gaining strength rapidly. John Quin cv Adams is making speeches in Maine with great success. Governor English begins a campaign in Massachusetts next month. The Democrats of Con necticut have invited Wade llair.pton to make a speech at New Haven. In New York and Pensylvania all goes well.” specials. EXTRACT OF A LETTER FROM Providence, Ala., May 13, 1866.
