Several original items arc to be found on the first page of this paper. The new road of which w'o complained, last week, leading out from this city in tho direc tion of the Etowah Iron Works, via Church street, we learn, has been opened. We are glad to see that Main Street has been opened eastward. Lumber is arriving, in quantity, for the erec tion of the Methodist parsonage in this city. We regret to state that the residence of M*j, W. J. Williford, in this city, was destroyed by Are, on Saturday night last between midnight and day. Mai-W. and family barely escaped with their lives. The house and almost entire contents were burned up. The family were awakened from their slumbers by almost suffo cating volumns of smoke and flame. Their daughter, Miss Lena Williford, was rooming on the second floor, and she was rescued from » horrible death, by her father ascending the stairway and seizing her in her frenzied con dition and descending with her while the stair way was on fire. Not even their wearing ap parel was saved. No clue as to how the fire originated. The building was insured. Our Are company was duly on the ground with their new apparatus, but the building was too far gone before the fire was discovered for their efforts to avail anything further than to pre vent its spread. Mr, J. l). Head and Maj. Wm. Milner, of this city, have associated themselves in business* and have something to say to their friend* and patrons in our advertising columns, to which we invite attention. Our old friends Thomas A. Sullivan and Jno A. Terrell have formed a partnership and gone into the family grocery business, in this city. The Parlor Beef Market still supplies the city with nice, fresh steakes, beef and pork sausage spiced meats, country produce, and fresh oys ters. Its superiority consists in its cleanliness. It is fast growing into public favor, as its daily increasing business plainly shows. These gentlemen deserve groat credit and a liberal patronage for their laudable efforts to give us a fresh meat market second to none in the State ; besides this, they arc liberai deal ers, and kind and obliging to their customers. No offensive stenches emanate from their stall. It is always as neat and tidy as a parlor, Mr. Bogle, of the City Restaurant, supplies his customers with anything they may want except strong drink; hence any lady can call at his restaurant, without the least hesitation, and be furnished with good meals victuals for as little money as it can be obtained elsewhere. We recommend Mr. J. W. Bogle, of the City RAtau ant, to the ladies and gentlemen visit ing Cartersville, as a gentleman of irreproach able character and Christian integrity.
