Ala*. Poor Nathan Gray.
BY THE RDITOR.
1 stood beside the window.
And he passed across the way ;
He reeled around the corner,
Alas ! poor Nathau Gray.
I saw him seize the wine cup,
Which he dr&iued from day to Jay :
The scarlet flush was on his cheek
The check of Nathan Gray.
Old books lay on bis counter,
For bis skillful hand to bind;
But the demons of the wine-cup
Were dancing in his mind.
Alas ! poor man of srorow,
Where do thy footsteps stray ?
To the sad and silent church-yard
To thy grave, poor Nathan Gray.
We could not chock his footsteps,
And his course we could not stay ;
He's gone, the way of all the Earth
He's gone, poor Nathau Gray.
They lockod him in tho guard bouse
Dark Acral cauio that way,
And bad compassion on him.
And took poor Nathan Gray,
lie bound his books s<> nicely,
That his oustomere did say.
That none could e’er surpass him,
The kind old Nathan Gray.
But the grave will strongly bind him,
Till all earthly things decay ;
There’s a tear for all frail creatures,
And a tear for Nathan Gray.

CELLBRATED COTTON GINS.
THESE Gins are unequalled for fast ginning,
and producing a fine staple.
The patentee’s improvement oonsists in flang
ing the heads of the cotton box six inches from
where the saws pass through the ribs in a direct
lino outwards, farming an angle of about fifteen
degrees, so that in every revolution of the saws
the ootton is contracted in going upwards and ex
panded in going down, In such a manner as to
present to the saws anew surface of cotton con
tinually. Thus onabling it to gin one-third fas

dogging on the saws.
