Political Intelligence. North Carolina.— John W. Ellin, democrat, elected Governor of North Carolina by a ma jority of about 4,000. The Newspaper Bet.—Wo have already slated that the proprietors of the Union (demo crat,) and Republican, (Lincoln,) at LaCroa, , Wia., have made a bet—the former wagering th Union office, valuod at $3,600, against the Re publican ollioc, valued at tbo same sum, that Douglas will carry the States of Illinois and Wis consin. The Union says ; “The necessary papers have been placed iu the hands of the President of the Katanyan Bank of the city, to wait the result of the election in No vember next. If Douglas carries Illinois and Wisconsin wc win the bet. If ho does not carry both states, we lose. If wo are beaten, we are beaten for tho worth of the material in this office; hut beaten or not, it will not affect the public. - tion of the paper or its continuance. We do not claim to boa betting man, but we wanted to make $3,600 this fall, and knew of no easier way to do it. We mado tbo bet as wo would make ■ •no for oysters—confident, and more than conti nent, that both States will go for Douglas, the people’s choice. Our only wish is that wo had a hundred such bet*. We should win every ona. Oglethorpe Medical College Wo refer our readers with pleasure to the ad vertisement in another column of this flourish ing institution at Savannah.
