Though not countenanced officially, a lending commercial authority hints that the Manchester Cotton Lords wero hand in glove with them. It is also mentioned, yt a significant tact, in tho same connection, that the vacancy in the British Cabinet by tbo retirement ot the Minister of War, is likely to b* filled by Mr. Gregory, M. P., from Galway, an individuul wh > bus made hiumrif notorious for hia unseemly veal in urging, in tho Mouse of Commons, the recognition of tho Con federacy. Cannou founded at Camden, Ark., have been t*i*d at Little Rock, and the Gazott* says tho trial was satisfactory. Someth ino Rich.—Simon Cameron, Secretary of War of tho Unite# States, has been singular ly exorcised about the body of bis deceased brother, Col. Cameron, of the New York Volun loora, who was killed at Manassas. Actuated by i silly prido about addressing Gen. Johnson on tbo subject in the latter’s proper official capacity just us the Rritisb authorities were towards our Washington, bo has resorted to every device to secure this object. -Romo are already known to tho public. A day or two ago, a flag of truce came to our pickets and seut in the following to Col. J. E. R. Stuart, of the Cavalry, command ing t Fairfax Court House; War Dp.i’Artmkxt, July 30. The first bale of the cotton cron was sent to Macon ou Tuesday, 80th ult, by Mason Tiller, of lA*ecounty. It was sold by Messrs. Hardeman A Fparks to the Macon Factory, at II cents.— The cotton was of good quality, and the bale weight 625 pounds. [Charleston Courier, sth. Kvery breach of busigess is as dull as ever, and no prospect of reviving it until! the war ts over. The recruiting business, which was as dull as any other, sort of spasmodic revival last week, after the battle of Bull Run, but only a spasm. The two or three regiments I hut have been recruiting for the last two months, have left or will leave in a day or two. They are but little more than half full; and notwithstanding a fjtoat dual of drumming up, thdre arc but very uw new recruits. The military spirit seems to have left us, and although the papers say tln returned three months’ men will moat of them, re-enlist, none of those that I have spoken with have any idea of doing so, and I think if we could only break up Old Abe’s Cabinet and break down the influence of the Abolition blood-hound* In Congress, we might hope for a specify end of the war. The Blockadr at Nkw York.—-Tho imports at New York from January Ist to August Ist, show a decrease of more than $1h,000,000, com pared with 1860, and more than $50,000,0(H) less than in 1850. The exports show a correspond ing decrease in some leading articles, but a large increase In the total for tho seven months. For the last week the dccreuso was strongly marked in Cotton, as will be seen in the following state ment : Cotton exp’d for week ending July 26th, I'bo. 1,662 bales $06,536 Cottm oxp'd for week ending July 26tb, 1861. 166 bales $11,476 The Coolest lying et. - In a long article on the late battle and its “losses,” in tho Trib une of the 6th instant, is to be found tho follow ing. How can a people who tolerate such a press, be otherwise than debased ? “Had precisely the samo state of things hap pened to the Rebel forces —had the relative loss es been changed and the other circumstances been as they were —they would have claimed at least a drawn battle, and probably u glorious victory. And not without a show of facts to sustain them in it. Rut un inconvenient habit we havo contracted at tho North of of telling the truth (!) which our Southern brethren socm to have ©ffocluniy subdued ; and the unbridled lieenso of our Northern Press, free from the wholesome censorship which keeps that at the South in dao subordination to authority, have compelled us to admit that the enemy did have a technical victory our forces having retreated in tho innin, and lied in a very small prop rtion —and they having remained in possession of the field of battle.” Tvro Tkkkiulk Caiiialitiks. ibis morning, about the hour of ton, says the Macon Citi zen of the lOlb, a man by the name of Rowell Rates, from tho country, was knocked down and run over, near Nisbet's Foundry, by the South Western train backing in to Ur position at tl.e Passenger depot, and instantly killed. His bead was nearly decapitated, lie was standing on the track looking at the departure of the Macon A Western train, and did not hear or heed the warn Ing to got oil the track, till too late. About the samo hour, near the switch on tho Central Railroad, a lad of tho name of William Ferrell, son of Mrs. Ferrell, of this city, was run over by tho Central train, going out, and dread fully mangled. Ho lived but a little while after be was conveyed to his mother's residence. The “Mkiiiiimac Rattkrv.” It would •uem that the hull of the Merritnac is being converted into an iron-cased battery. It so, hUo will be a floating fortress that will bo able to defeat the whole navy of the United States and bombard its cities. Her great size, strength, powerful en gines and speed, combined with the invulnera bility secured by tbo iron casing, will make tbo dispersal or destruction us tho blockade fleet an easy task for tier. Her immense tonnage will unable her to carry an armor proof against any projectile, and sbo could entertain herself by throwiug bombs into Fortress Monroe even, with out risk. Wc hope soon to bear that rbo is ready to commenco her avenging career on the seas. Gov. Lovvk, of Maryland. Wo have had the pleasure of nn interview with this distinguished and estimable gentleman, and have been glad to find him more than hopeful with rtsped to the ultimate redemption of his down trodden but gallant State from tho grasp of the tyrannical and bratal faction which Ims unfortunately been able to bind her hand and foot.
