Disease Among Cattle.
A fatal distemper or dry murrain la prevailing
among, the cattle throughout this whole country,
Quite a number of One milch cowa In and around
town ifave died with It within tho last wcok or
two. Tho disease is on the inereaso, and In al
most every Instance proves fatal. Frequont
salting with saltpetre, ti said to be a good remedy.
Convention of Northwestern Musical Association.
We afro requested by Mr. J. W.-Ramsey, Vioc.
President of this association, to announce that It
will, In Convention, assemblo at Dalton on the
6th of August, continuing throe days. Pastors
tpachcra and tho frlehda of music are urgently

St. Marj’S Instltife.
Tills Institute la situated at,Cedar Grove, In
Walker county, twenty-fivo miles from Ringgold,
in one of the most beautiful valleys In the South,
surrounded by picturesque scenery, and is unsur
passed In point of health. Capt. J. T. Wood, a
gallant soldier of tho Lost Cause, a pure gentle*
man and ripe scholar, graduating with honors at
one of our 6 rst Southern colleges, Is Principal
-while Miss Maidio, his sister, a most estimable
lady, Is thq accomplished Assistant, See card,

This grand affair, which was so anxiously an
ticipated b.t those fond of ’’tripping the light fan*
tastic too,” has come and bean numbered with tho
Hilngs of the past. The elegant hall, so hand
soraoly bedecked by fair ones of the House, was
filled to overflowing with ladles and gentlemen
from the city ant elsewhere. All seemed to enjoy
themselves finely. The supper was magnificent,
abundant, composing all.tbe substantiate and deli
cadet of the season, till tho tables fairly groaned
under the oppression. ■ The nluslo was splendid.
The dance continued into the “wee sma’ hour***
of the 4 th, and all wont home, apparently, well
‘ pleased with the Stlree at the Tibb’s House.

the Senate Clismbor and mounted the rostrum,
Gen. Mendo seating himself on tho left, nnd Judge
Ersklne and Parrott on -the right of the Govern
or. Governor Butiock then aroso and announced
that Mr. Taylor would read the'acts and orders
under which the Legislature was now.assembled.
Tho aot was thon read, followed by tho proclama
tion of Governor Bullock. General Orders No.
68, Headqaarters Third , Military District, came
next, followed by Genera! Orders No. 00, announc
ing the narr.es of persons elected to the Legisla
ture. The first name called was A. A. Bradley,
who answered "present,” Senators four.
The clerk then read tho oath required by the
Constitution. „
Senator Holcombe Inquired then whether, at
this stage of tho proceedings, those persons whose
scats were contested, and especially those whose
seats wore contested on account of ineligibility,
would bo nllowed.to qualify ? '
The Governor replied, that all thoso whose
names are embraced In General Orders No. 90,
would be allowed to qualify.
Judge Ereklne rose, and announced that by re
quest of his Excellency, tho Governor elect, he
would now administer the oath ns required by the
Constitution. Senators, ns their names wore call
ed, approached tho Clork's desk, by threes, and
took the oath.
The Governor announced that, for the purpose
of cflfectiilg a speedy organization, Senators would

Mr. Conley, of Augusta, (Rad) having received

Mr. Marshall, (Rad) hn\ Ing received a m^ority

Governor as duly elected Secretary or tho Senate.

Senators who had not boon qualified were re
quested by the President to como forward nnd
take the prescribed oath, whereupon Mr. Candler
objected to the administration of the oath by tho
Prostdont, as unconstitutional, nnd likely to pro-
dueo trouble in tho fotore.
Tho objection was sustained and Justico Dun
ning wu called upon to administer the oath.
A resolution wm offered inviting reporter* for
the press, members of Congress; Governors nnd
ox Governors, Judges of Supreme nnd. Supe
rior Courts to scats on the floor. Adopted.
Mr. Nuonally offered a resolution requesting
tho adjournment of special comraitteo* to investi
gate the oaiufoTA. A. Bradley (colored), charged
with felony.
After considerable dtspuMlon the resolution of
Mr. Nuhnnlly was read and ndoptod.
On motion, the Senate adjourned iintil 10

ganized, and ready to co-operate with’ that body
in proceeding to business.
At this juncture, Mr. A. E. Marshall, Secrcf

that body had appointed n committee to co-oper
