Liberty Hull is the name of a spacious house at < ; raw lord - villo, (Ja., the residence of the Hon. Alexander 11. Stephens. It is noted for the old-fashion ed virtue of hospitality whieh its distinguished owner prac tices on a liberal scale. The name was given it because lie expects all visitors fo act with as much liberty as if they were at home. During the war 1! was known as the “Way side Home,” from the number! of sick soldiers entertained there. Its domestic economy is pe culiar. The house is always - open for guests whether MY. Stephens is present or absent. j Even bis sickness or ill-health does not o-flect the domestic arrangements. Visitors come and go, make themselves at home, and—Mr. Stephens be ing a bachelor-—are looked af ter by Harry and Eliza, respect ively head servant and cook.. Dinner is served yit 1, and all who happei to be guests take their place at the table. Later visitors wait fbr supper. The fare is plain but abundant. The rule is never to postpone .the dinner hour, and never to iix up anything for persons dropping in at meal-time. If there is not food enough on the table, more is cooked, but it is of the sort tlmt can be got ready in the shortest time. One day when dinner, which nad been provided for three guests, was nearly ready, a doctor, w ith wife, children and srM Vaiiii:, happened! ill. 1 h",;C‘ won: houii folio w?<l hy two other vihitos>.
