Six Negroes Burned to Dcutli. Wo lcam*the particulars of a hor rible affair that occurred on Friday night, at Eastman, on the Macon and Brunswick Railroad. Six no. gross—two women, two children and two men—were burned to death in their cabin. The origin of the fire is doubtful. It was rumored, however, that the deed was committed by a ►couple of black fiends who, after try ing to effect an entrance into the cabin, and failing, then fired it and left One of the scoundrels, it was reported, was captured soon after the perpetration of the borible deed, but the other is still at large. Another Rntli oad Accident. Another serious accident occurred Saturday afternoon on the Macon and Brunswick Railroad, about twelve miles from Macon, by which five men, four colored and one white, were wounded—the latter probably having his back broke. The white man lived at No. If, on the Macon and Brun swick Road. The accident was caused by a giving way of the trestle-work under a lumber train—two cars and the tender of the engine falling through. Negro Killed. A negro was -killed at Station 14, Macon and Brunswick Railroad, on Saturday night, the 19th inst., under the following cirsumstnnces: The ne gro was in the employ of a Mr. Baker. A difficulty arose between Mr. B. and the negro in relation to a settlement The negro called Mr. B. a d—d liar, whereupon the latter shot him through the bowels, causing the death of the negro soon afterwards. We learn that the negro was of a very overbearing disposition. Death of a Prominent Citizen. Our community sustained a severe loss, on the morning of the 17th inst, in tiio death of Mr. M. T. Grace, one of our most prominent citzcns. Mr. Grace had long been engaged in mer cantile business hero, and during bis long citizenship bail endeared to him many Btrong friends, who will deeply regret his loss. The deceased was an active and wfertby member of the Odd Fellows and Masonic Brother hoods, and his remains were escorted to their final resting place on last Friday morning by the Masonic Fro. ternity, followed by a large concourse of citizens. Szirr and Gaylord. —Don’t forget that this splendid Minstrel Troupe will exhibit In Wimberly’s ball Thurs day evening, 24th inst. It is one of tho best Troupes in the South. Ma con has been enjoying their pres ence for the post two or three nights. Be certain and attend. Move*. Mr. A. Westcott, our enterprising Tinner, has just received anew lot of Cooking and Heating Stvoes. Fam ilies that desire a good 6tovc for cook ing purposes, or those who wish one for heating offices, etc., will do well to call and deal with Mr. Westcott. What The Two Members from Pulaski Cost the People. It will be readily seen by multiplying 198, the number of days claimed tor legis lative service in 1870 by each member, by 9, (the wages being $9 per day) each mem bar from Pulaski county received daring the year 1870 alone, $1,512. It will be further seen that these members each re ceived In 1889 $585 for 65 days of service, and In 1886 for 95 days of service sßss—in all, for two ysors legislative service, each of them received the sum of $2,952. The services of these two men cost the people of Pnlsski county $5,904. And the worst part of the story yet remains to be told: that the tax received from the poor freed men as a poll tax —which, by the Constita tstion ot 1888, was sacredly devoted to their education—was spent by the Legisla ture in payinpitself. To every voter In old Pulaski, then we say—now is your time of redress. At the election in December, speak la tones of thunder, that a government so faithless and corrupt as we have had for the past two ysors, does not meet yoar approval Hawkmsvilie Price-current.
