‘MIM After the Dhtrtet Court. We do moat earnestly recommend that tb* Ordinary do * A levy a tax iu defray any of l>.« expense* of the 1 so-called District Court. In our opinion tfctft concern Las no legal ex istenco. If we are not m'retaken In our opin t JB, «« are eoiifldeut that a court treated as that one wan, and with such judicial officers will not be able, in the present condition of Society in our county, to do anything for tire inublic good. Wc arc now coinpnra •tively free from crime, and il that ‘Court should continue, we fear that its very proceedings would he pro ductive of crfntc. It was created ngainst tiro will cl good, true men of our county, as wc believe, and so far as our suggestions may bo binding upon our immediate Represenalive for the next Legisla ture, we say to him it is Iris duty to labor tn the Legislature for the rc jveaJ of the odious law creating the court. In Campbell county the granil jury goes for the PUtrie Court and Bollock: Wo would solicit our Byprtscna tivo to aid Sod assist, with, his will lies, the repeal of sn Act organising 'the Senatorial District Court, believ ing It to lie a nuisance instead ot a benefit. Nor can wc close these, our general presentments,' without ex pressing our unqualified condo filia tion of the reckless and profligate expenditure of the people’s money, by the Chief Executive of the State of Georgia, sud call upon all good and patriotic citizens, who have love for Georgia ami desire tier prosperity, to join ns in denouncing such glaring extravagance that Is witnessed al most daily, and so oppressively felt by the citizens of their once proud and noble, but now distressed and :hcr almost bankrupt Htate. 'AVe clip as follows from the New nair^lsrsid: A White Max ItnnnKi. nr Ne ohoU.—A gentleman writing to us from Bowden says: A gentleman by the name of J. L Marbut, a citizen of Paulding coun ty, reports that bo was attacked and iobbsd<'on Saturday April the Kith on the public road leading from He was alone and traveling on foot. The negroes were sitting by the road as Mr. Marbut came up to them when they halted him and asked how far It was from there to Atlanta. They then drew their revolvers, presented thyfcM him, ijursed *m» and ds mamlnd his money. Air. Marbut having no means Os defence gave them bis pocket hook, which con tained about eighteen dollars in money. The negroes then told him .to get down ami pray his last prayer. 'Ho kneeled tlowu and prayed. They •then ordered him take off his shoes and hat. Rocifig they were de termined on killing him, he broke and'ran for hie lLc and succeeded in imaking liis escape. The negroes shot at him, one ball passing through the skirt of hts coat, but missed him. The robbers have not yet been ar rested. Snv-n Tn* Xx*kk.--£eys the San derdvfoft Georgia: ‘ Tito largest and most successful fruit grower in Washington (county, informs us that he is relieving his poach trees of their superabundance of fruit, ill order to save Ids trees and enable them to produce perfect fruit. He contends that the sooner this is done the better, before the tree is riven by its weight of fruit and heavy winds. This should Ins dofie with great oare so an not to injure the tree by bruising or hjffiring the limbs. The man who with s polo to thrash the fruit off the trees deserves to have that inst mnent ap- Cied to bis own person. Trees can tl a wound if they cannot audtblv complain. "Notes P.vtabux to Baxnxtt-e-Iu the U uitcl State* Circuit Court, Judges Wood and Erskiue presiding, a decision was announced that is of general interest. The question arose on the trial of a case (Archer vs. Whitehead) founded on a promissory note made payable to bearer, and giv en originally tn a business transaction between two citizens of Georgia. The note went into the hands of a citizen of another Plate by whom it waa brought against the maker. Counsel for defendant offered to prove that the note was transferred by the folder to a nou-resideul not bona-fide and for a valuable conaidcr ation. but for the fraudulent purpose of giving jurisdiction to the Courts of the United State*. This the court refoued' to allow, holding that notes mads payable to tbeJtearer could be sued by anv holder for tbs time be ing, such being the intention of the contracting parties, and that no evi dence going to show the manner, and sot what purpose, the holder came In possession of the same, was adinissa- This decision is dearly law, though the contrary law has generally pre vailed with the public.—So*\ Repub lic**, 22nd. Variety In Food. er’s wagons, and are obliged to sub sist, as to meat, tbe year round, upon ham, salt pork, and chickens. The ham is always fried, and the pork is always boiled or fried, swimming in grease, and the chickens are cooked t some such way. Tbe bam might be Lolled or broiled, or cut into small bit* and made into dumplings, the crust for them being like soda bisc alt, and steamed or baked. Cold pieces of ham are nice cut into small mouth fuls, and warmed with eggs; they are also very' palatable fried in butter, like veal cutlets. The methods of cooking chickens And pork are numberons, and most housekeepers know them, but fall into the habit of cooking them in nome stereotyped way, so that they never seem to have a variety. It is tiie same with vegetables. The first care, is, in tbe summer and fall, to make provision for winter; this should be plentiful and varied, both in vege tables and fruits. Dried or canned green corn, and canned tomatoes, and the many kinds of sour and sweet pickles, are great additions to the winter dinner table; but my opinion Is that they are better appreciated If tbe same kind does not appear on the table oftener than once a week. Po tatoes seem an essential part of every dinner, and one can make such a rota tion of turnips, parsnips, onions, cab bages, beans, com. beets, etc., accord ing to the nature of the dinner, as never to get tired of any one vegeta ble. lu the matter of canned fruit.pre serves, cakes, pics, und puddings, the same rule for variety should be ob served. A house-keeper should not fall into the common error of making year after year the same kind of pre serves, the'same kind of cakqs, and the same kind of‘pies. — Agriculturist. How Women do in Texas. Texas women manage their bus bands in a somewhat summary man tier, if one may be taken as a sample of the whole. A handsome woman recently rode into a village near Denton, went rapidly to a drinking saloon, ami singled out a flue looking man among the, crowd of drinkers. Rhe ordered him to pnt down tile glass which be was whout to drain. lie dashed do VP the nftU rail away; the Udy fol lowed, fifth* tfinlly cornered tiirfl m 'the billiard room. Rite finally told hint, in a firm, determed voice, that the place he was in and the course he was pursuingwouldnotdo for her htts- Imnd ; that he was wasting her prop erty, and that she would no longer (iwusunt to ba disgraced and impover ished by him. She look hts pistol from him, cocked it, and presented it at him, and told him he must leave or die. He concluded to leave. Shi' marched him out as a prisoner of wur to where his horse was hitched, or dered him to, mount, and in a few minutes the two were leaving town, tiie wife riding in the rear of her enj>- tured lord, with his six shooter in her hand. A DuvTifDi. Sentiment.—ln Au gustine Daly's great piny “ Under the ! Gaslight," Laura Courtlaml utters! these beautiful sentiments; •* Let the woman you look upon be wise or vain, boautifull or homely, rich or |x>or, she has one thing site can really give or rvfttso; her heart. Her lieauty. her wit, her accomplish ments, she may sell to you but her love is treasure without money and ! without price. She only asks in re- j turn that when you look iijkhi her, your eyes shall «i>cnk a mute devo lion; that when you address her, vour voice shall be gentle, loving and kind. That you shall not despise her because she can not urderstand, all at once, your vigorous thoughts and ambitious plans, for which misfortune and evil have defeated your great purposes, her love remains to con sole you. You look upon the trees for strength ami grandeur; do not despise the (lowers because their fra grance is all they have to give. Re member, love is all that a woman can give, but it is tuc only uaillriy thing which God permits us to carry beyoud the grave." A Rem auk mile Sprino. —A cor respondent sends us the following ecm-mut of a remarkable spring in Texas:—“ About sixty miles north of Galena, near the town of Liberty, there is a spring, the water of which is quite acid, simulating lemon ade, and those who taste it like it so much that they drink it almost im mediately. When you feel hot, It* is quite delicious; and under any cirvumtnnees, whether you are hot or cold, the drinking of it produces perspiration, with no unpleasant ef fects afterward. Tbe spring has no npparedt outlet or inlet. It is proba bly sixty feet across it, and it i» cov ered with a white froth or foam, which upon a close examination ap pears like cream of tartar on a wine cask. It kills Insccta, worms and other sfoall animals that come near and uso it. No fish or other evidence of life if seen within its waters. “Jinl’’ Sintma, the little mulatto fiddler,(whom Bullock appointed Dis trict Judge down at Savannah, can't find bis court.
