The car was being polled at good speed, and passed over him. As soon us possible the hands replaced Mr. Mullis on tdic car and carried him to the house et Mr. Armstrong, from wnence lie was conveyed to Cochran. We have since learned that Mr Mullis was not seriously hull, and is now able to attend to business. House Struck by lightning On Friday evening last the dwelling on the plantation of Mr. David C. Joiner, itlmtil twelve miles limn llawkiusville, was ornish lerab'y injured by lightning. The thunderbolt struck the building about the centre, shivering two Inigc posts, splitting the ceiling, tearing off a tire-hoard, and making a hole about eight inches in diam eter In the hearth below. Mr. Sembnr o igli's fintily, who were occupying llie dwelling, very fortunately happened to la in distant rooms from where the shock oceiirA-d Two of Ids little hoys had been di-epiiig on ihc floor near the hearth only a li w momenta before the accident took pi iv. Who Halses Chickens on Thim bles? Thinking it a propitious op|ioi (unity one day last week to purchase a few chickens, ns the District Conference had closed its session und the delegates departed home ward, we sougiit the store of Mr. J. S Willy. If any were to be obtained in Jhc town, we knew they could be found ill the coop in front' of Ids store. Sure enough he had some that were very nice of usun'. frying sir.c. They were purchased and carried home. Next morning the cook was dressing one preparatory to frying it for breakfast, when she found among the particles of grit iu its gizzard, a medium size brass thitnblo. There was uo possible means of ascer taining the length of time since the fowl had swallowed the strange article of diet, Imt there was an assurance of one fact, namely: that the gizzard, which pcrfoims the functions of teeth in grinding the lood, had made no progress in its ialiors. Whether the said chicken liad liccn nt tending a female sewing convention, or whet tier it came from Houston county where the people have no com to spare, we are not disposed to question. Our ob ject is to make our money back. To do this, wc art- willing to sell the thimble nt the exceedingly low price r-f twenty-flve cents, provided the person qffering to pur chase comes well recommended as pos sessed of good moral cliaiacter, and shall be willing to stand by the Baltimore nom neee. These are the only conditions on which the thimble will be sold. Ail orders must lie accompanied with the cash. An sale is desirable, as we are waiting to buy another chicken from the same lot, ia the hope that in next one will lie found a whole sewing machine. Markets Wool is worth in toe bale 45 cents per pound. The market is duff. Cera ia selling at $1.95 cash per bushel, and $1.60 to $1.65 on time. Bacon is selling at Os to 10 cents. Flour is declining. Prices range Oran $5 to $6.50 per hundred for good grades. Popular Oae of the most favorite drinks of the season is the pure and refreshing Soda Water sold by John Fale A Cos. The pea. pie will bay it glass after glass, and con tinue buying as long as loose change can be bad. . If you ever drank it before Come drink it some more, And tell us haw it is yourself. The life of a Journeyman Printer The following strange, eventful record of a Journeyman printer's life is noj doubt correct to a letter. It developes what a man can do if lie likes, wlint queer, enter prising fellows the majority of printers are. It also reminds us of the very hu nu-rous biography of "Thomas Singularity," Which we read many years ago. We won der if Mr. Boully is not nquainted with tho printer whose life is detailed in the follow ing brief manner: I left home at the age of nine, and was apprenticed to the printing business at thirteen. Since.thcn I have liccn in Eu rejie—been in England, Ireland, Scot land, Wales and France ; in Caqadh, Nova Scotia, Labrador, South America, West indies, aud all flic Atlantic States in the Union, from Maine to Louisiana, and have liecii fixed in twenty cities and towns in the United States. 1 have been a sailor iir the merchants service, and have sailed in nil manner of crafts—ship, bark, brig, schooner, sloop and steamer —in the regu lar army, as a private soldier, deserted and got shot in the leg. 1 have studied two years for the ministry, one year for an M- D.—traveled through all the New England States, New York. The New Itnrilcnl fflclliodlsl Bishop for Georgia. The St. Louis Christian Advocate publishes a sharp and {minted criti cism on the new emissary of JSortli em Methodism who is ordered to this State: The description of this Bishop is mutilated by shortening it; but us a passing minor topic, and as a casti gation richly deserved, from all ac counts, it is too vigorous aud to the to be entirely lost. “Bimop Haven is our old acquaintance of Zion’s Herald, the most ultra of tie groisls and absurd of counsellors to be found iu the Radical Methodist Church. Bishop Haven professes to believe that it is a sin against God to demur to the marriage of uegrocs and whites. He asserts that the mulatto race is an improvement upon the whites. He affects great admira tion f«r the negro form and com plexion. He aserilies to him moral and in tellectual qalities of higli flavor— Bishop Haven will appoint black preachers to whilo churches and in all respects ignore blackness, lie will also ordain female preachers.— Toward the South he will act in ac cordance with his profound ignor ance of the situation, and his avowed opinion that the negroes of the South are in all respects a superior race to the whites.” A l”iilrriiiil I.ctlcr.
