from »iiy t-'inrimraii. Times andClirouicle.i The I'BI Ciinirtboior-ll? 'Hill Bea I AtNililule for Pre«l« drill. The hour has arrived. I can wait 3 lengcr. The highest interests of the nation demand that I present inys self as a candidate fi»r President of the United States. 1 have waited foi some one else to bring me out, but in the multitude of candidates no one seems to have thought of me. 1 don't think very much of myself; but a man don't want to think much of himself to be a eandidatc for Presi dent now-a-days. If he*had any self regard at outset he would think very little of himself by the time lie got through witii himself. I am one of the people—l might say one of the boys. 1 came up from obscurity, and I have .brought Up a good ileal of obscurity with me l never had any politics—or much else. I am “Liberal” to a fault, ami ready to receive votes from any quar ter, although I r.m not ready to give quarters for any vote. As for a platform, suit yourselves, gentlemen. The lecture platform Would probably suit me as well is any other. Having stood upon nearly every platform in the West, it would be hard for you to 2et up one 1 could not stand on. In the absonee of a platform give rae four acres, and I'll stand on that. I am the special friend of the la boring man. No one likes to see a man work better than Ido I u fact. I had rather see a man work than work myself. I am not only averse to working more than eight hours, but I am opposed to working a single hour! I shan’t even work for my elevation, leaving that for the men who wan the office. I am in favor of paying the nation al debt. It is in fact- the only debt I am in favor of paying; and rather than not sec it paid during my ad ministration 1 will pay it out of my ; u>eket. In the matter of civil service re form, I intend to do the civil thing by the nation if the nation does the civil ' hing by me. Being civil is so rare a • ondition now-a-days in the varied walks o( life (to say nothing about he runs) that reform is urgently called for. Retrenchment is my motto. If you can’t put a retrenchment plank in the platform put in aboard. lam ready to work without any salary, but I shall iusist qpon my board. I am rather inclined to free trade, prefering to feel free to trade where •ver I please; but if a tariff plank is necessary to my election put it in. I -hall not get on a tariff if I ain't elected. Pledge me as strong as you please i o the temperance men. The temper ance pledge won’t hurt me one bit. No relative shnll hold ofllcc, no natter whoso relation he may be. I shall appoiift none but old hacln 'ors, childless widows and orphans. | Any man who lias a relation in Hit world need not apply for an office under my administration. I have a few relatives of my own holding office yow, but they shall be promptly kicked out ns soon as 1 am elected. One brother-in-law has a tittle coal office on the river. He must give it up. A third cousin on my neighbor’s side drinks too much occasionally, and 1 shnll give him notice to quit. Another rela tive has ahankering after George Ellis’ 00106.” It won’t do him any good. You see lam determined to reduoc the “relative" expenses of the govern ment. L engage not to accept any gift unless it be the highest office in the gift of the jieople. If I am ever •ailed “our present chief magistrate” it won't he chief magistrate of pres ents. Not being a man of com manding presence* anyhow, there vould probably he few" presents that 1 could command. What few natural \ifts I may have, however, 1 shall on" leavor to retain. They are not worth making any fuss about. I nm no! only in favor of woman’s rights, but of women’s rights anil 1 ’fts. lam in favor ot women voting, provided they vote lor me. 1 see no i -ascii why a woman should not hold *-tflee, except, perhaps, the difficulty iu getting hold of it. Nor should t ere be any bar to a woman’s accu mulating property and supporting a i nily if she wants to. • ! twrty be asked how I would trest i«• Ii liana. I wouldn’t “treat” them at iff. They have been treated t<• much id teo often. My private op:.iion, -owever, is, that it will be j a treat when thero isn’t an Indian less. I stand by the old constitution that has been tried. Few men have tried their constitution more than I have tried mine.. 1 accept the atnuud ments.'tvery one of them. When it comes to amends, 1 am ready t i shout “amen” as loud as anv bo ly. 1 understand there is an ambitious m m named George Francis Train who aspires to be President on uis promise to free Ireland. I engage not only to free Ireland, but to make Irish whisky free in the bafgain. 1 shall, at least, be able to tie Geo. Francis Train in the jKipular vole, unless one or the other of us is kept away from the polls. Hang it, I believe I could tie the Davenport brothers! I shall inaugurate a wholesale emancipation business as soon as l am- inaugurated. No goods rein led at the White yousc vvlicii I am Pres ident. I engage to emancipate wo man from the thraldom of fashion, to give the “boys" their rights, and abolish the custom which* excludes children in arms from the elevating and purifylrig influences of the thea tre, 1 have pledged myself to free Ireland and to free postage ; to free housekeepers from the tyrany of ser vant girls, free pews, free pasess, and free-booters, to free soil, to free tick ets to shows, free drinks, free press, and “J. N.” Free. I trust lam not making myself too free.— Fat Con tributor. PLAIN QUESTIONS FOU INVA LIDS —Have the routine medicines of the profession done you no good* Arc you discouraged and miserable?
