Thanksgiving Day.— Our citi zens forgot that last Thursday was the day appointed for return ing thanks, so ordered by his frauduleucy, R. B. Hayes, Presi dent of the United States so call ed. The churches were not open ed—we heard of no thanksgiving | dinners and the fat turkey now gets out. month's lease of his life. Christinas will not lie forgotten. There is a greater disposition among our farmers to go west this fall than we have noticed for years We do not understand why this Western fever comes on periodi cally. In a large number of in stances, the men who are most anxious to move are doing well here. ‘‘Let Well enough alone” is an old and true maxim. Men who own a good farm and are making a comfortable living should hesi tate long before giving their con sent to abandon their homes to try their fortunes in Texas or any of the Western States. Engine Blown up.— We are in foimod that, on Monday evening, the engine which runs Wages k Adams saw mill was blown up while the hands were engaged in sawing. We have been unable to : ascertain the cause the acei dent, bui it was supposed that it was caused by pumping cold wa ter while iiio boiler was very hot, Ihe boiler was blown all to pieces. Cue piec«, supposed to weigh 1200 pounds, was found thirty or forty yards from the engme. It is remarkable bow any person present escaped, as the pieeos were blown in every direc tion. The following parties were in jured, none of them are supposed to be dangerously hurt. W. J.Jennings was badly bruised j on the right hip and shoulder and scalded on the side of the head. Joseph Adams was knocked down and bruised. Wm. Moore had a gash cutacross his forehead. Jas. Pierce, John Wages and Mr. Aiueyards little son were slightly hurt.
