Those noisy little suffrage slingers who
frequent the gallery of the Baptist
Chnrch of this place, ought to have a
good old time flogging administered to
them. About fifty a piece we~ think
would cool them down, so they cqnM
keep quiet during church service: ,
Boy Drowned. —A negro boy was
drowned in the Ogechee river near this
place, on Sunday, 25th ult. His body
was found on the 28th, about half a mile
from tho place where he went in. No
one was present when the accident- efK
curred. The inquest rendered a verdict
of accidental drowning.
A number of our citizens presented
a petition to the honorable Board of
Commissioners the lAqflSnr
pose of influencing them to allow horses
and mules to run at large in the streets.
The thing was done as per petition, and
the consequences are that ever/"four
footed annimal, from a pig to a donkey,
is loafing on the streets at his own dis
cretion.
The business seasou is approaohing,
and the indications are that it will be
brisk and lively. Onr planters and bu
siness men of course will be largely
governed as to Where to do business by
by the advertisements in. their paper.
Now is the time for factors and mer
chants to let the people know whether
their firm still exists, and whether they
are ready for business, by sending tfieir
advertisements to the ‘News & Farmer.
Thanks-
Yos; thank you kind friends for your
cordial interest in the News & Farmer.
Each mail brings as kindly greeting and
ardent wishes for success from out hope
ful patrons.
We assure our readers that we mean
what we say when we proudac to make
the News & Farmer one of the best pa
pers in the South ; one worthy the no
ble old county from which it o urinate*.
An exponent of the feelings and inter
ests of the pooplo--a fade mecum to all
onr good citizens. CommupießtiOA*
from all parts gladly received.
Bead This.
We want planters, farmers, gardeners,
fruit growers, mechanics, housewives,
maidens, young men—everybody—to aid
us in making the News & Farmer an
indispensable companion to every fami

We shall labor Bteadily and earnestly
for the material and social interest of all
our people ; and we have not * shadow
of fear but that our success will be fully
up to our anticipation. Our list- of aubw
scribers is increasing in the most gratify
ing way daily, but we have room for many
more, and hope to receive them soon.
The News & Farmer is not an “ex

we invite all good people to aid us in
so doing.

■Would be well for the Commissioners of
the town to call another meeting and ap
point another committee to look after
the interest of the village. The horse
racks which were an ornament to tfie
town, and should be preserved, are beipg
neglected. The one in front of Mir.
Miller’s residenoe ought to have imme
diate attention. The bridge below tpe
“Herring Pond” has a dangerous hcfle
in it. The ditch in the rear of Dr. Hon
ter’s bouse is stopped up, holding water
•aoortft&f f-a pe»t?en<*, jof to say
anything of mosquitoes, a pe"t to the
whole community. The committee
should see that the usual whitewashing,
which was been overlooked this year,
be attended to at once. This commit
tee wonld confer a lasting favor upon
the good folks of the village, who go t<r
bed, not to have tbeir slumbers disturb
ed, or bo alarmed by the ringing of belts.
The bell ropes of the different ’churches
tbould be takeu off, or the doors secured
so as to prevent evil disposed persons
from disturbing the quiet of the town.
Lebthe committee have power to pur
chase all the different bugles, horns,
poppers and torpedoes in the differebt
stores; then they can publish to the
world that a sweet night’s repose can be
bad in Louisville.
