He left home the evening before and was

honest, upright hospitable, kind, charitable to a

30ih day of August, 1“62, and recently brought
home and reintered in the Louisville cemetery
Dust to dust I With tears and heart-aches.
We have laid him down to rest,
Start and bars wrapped round his coffin,
Flowers eleeping upon bis breast.
In the combat fierce and gory,
With his face towards the foe,
Our beloved one bravely, nobly,
Battling, fell to rise no more.
With Ms red eword buckled round him
In his suit of rebel gray;
Comrades true, with heaving bosoms
Gently laid our boy away.
Neath the sod of old Virginia
Soaked with blood of heroes brave j
They left him to sleep, while glory
Watched untiringly his grave.
Pe haps ’twer best to have let him slumber
Where be bravely fought aud fell,
With strange skies and winds to weep
And whisper low his funeral knell.
Bat our hearts yearned for his presence
Yearned to make his grave with ours,
Yearned to decorate his pillow
With the soft huad Southern flowers.
So betide the one who bore him
And tho father loved and gone,
We have laid Mm down to slumbet
'Til the resurrection morn.
Laid Mm where life’s noisey battles
Cannot reach hie deafened ear,
Neath the grasses of the grave-yard
Wet with the twilights glittering tew.
In that “land beyond tho River”
When the angele white* robed stand,
Wtfraa bopeVe’H find ead> member
Os our shattered house-hold band.
Then thnmghout the endless ages
Os tbs West eternity,
Mother, fluber, brother, airier.

issue of your papers few weeks since
vou asked for in formal ion concerning
the Louisville Library Association;
seeing no other member of lbe Asso
ciation appears disposed to give the
information asked for, I have conclu
ded to do so. The Association was
formed on the 2d April, 1867, by 12
gentlemen in the village, for their
mutual benefit and improvement,
and a Constitution and By-Laws
adopted; officers were elected, funds
c 1 ced an b oka were purchased,
otarung from utnbing, we have now
nb< at I7ovolumns, consisting ot His
tories, Novels, TiaveU, Biographies
&c., and funds enough on hand to
ruutbe numlter of volumns up to 200
or more. Uutilyery recently, no |ier
son was allowed accem to the books of
the Library, except a member or his
immediate tamily, but at its last
meeting, the Association so amended
its Cousmu'ion as to allow any per
son to borrow bottles, who tnay wish
to do so, by depositing with the Li
brarian $5 as security for the return
of the itoofcs in good order, anti pay
ing 50 cents per monib in advance.
When the party borrowing books,
wishes to slop, the $5 is returned to
him, if there are no charges against
him fitr lost or injured books. No
one is allowed to keep a book longer
than one month at a time, Two
other changes were made in the
Constitution at the last meeting
Ist—The meetings and collection ot
dues liom members was changed
train Monthly to Quarterly, on the
Ist Thursday in January, April,
July and October—this payment of
dues quarterly, only applies to
Members; subscribers have to pay
monthly. 2d—lt was Resolved to
issue Butipl to any member not in
arrears, showing the amount he has
paid into the Library, which script
shall be inheritable and transferable,
aud shall bu estimated as slock in
the final distribution of the assets
of the Ass< cialton, but shall noteuti*

Association.” To obtain member
ship, the name of the applicant mu t
he proposed and balloted for, and
if elected must pay an initiation lee
of $2 and $1 50 (ter Quarter, in ad
vance thereafter. No member in
arrears 1 Quarter is allowed to bor
row a book from the Library. The
officers of the Association are a
President, Vice Pres’t, Secretary and
Librarian, who ate elected annually
and a standing committee of three,
elected quarterly. The duties of
this committee, are to select and or
der Books wlteuever any are to t>e
purchased. As has deen stated,
when first organised, the member
ship was confined to Louisville—
now about halfour members are from
tl e conutry, a id although we have
not increased in numbers as rapidly
as we desired, or as the cause <.e
served to, still we have grown some,
and feel assured jf times were ouiy
easier and money more plentiful, our
membership would so<>u double, for
in no other way can one gel the same
amount of reading in a year far $6,
that he can here. It was with a
view of making the reading cheaper,
that the Association resol veil to throw
open the doors ot its Library to those
who might wish to lead its books
without being cotnfwlled to pay $2,
Initiation lee. At the last meeting,
the Librarian was instructed to call
in alt books bekmging to the Library,
and will lake this occasion to request
all members having any to return
them at once. LIBRARIAN.
