[COMMUNICATED.]
Messrs. Editors : Among your
numeious readers petbaps there are
very few who are awate ofihe ex
istence of such a thing as a colton
market in Louisville, but there is,
and although but a few weeks have
elapsed since it commenced, it al
ready gives bright promise of perma
nent success in the future. The
planters of this county have long
101 l ihe want of a market at some
point more convciem than Augusta ;
and th« making of Louisvi le the
pojlit must recommend its fitness to
all who give it a thought. Easy of
neefcss from all parts of the county.
There is no planter in it who canuot
>iart Irom home in the morning, de
liver his load of cotton, and return
the same evening. The amount of
anxiety in regard to business and
families left behind, that will be
avoided by this, will be appreciated
by those who have been compelled
to take those long and tedious trips
to Augusta. Trie wear and tear
and risk to mules and wagons, the
demoralizing effects on laborers, the
absence of the best hands from the
colton field when they are most
needed, will all be weighed in the
balance in favor of Louisville as a
market, and against Augusta. Tire
prices in the two places have varied
but little in the pant two weeks, as
all can see by consulting the papers
and those who have sold the same
grade ijf cotton. The gentlemen
who hive undertaken the business
are fully up toil and have facilities
which will enable them always, to
pay lull price for coit >n, and no one
need fear to bring his cotton here to
sell, thinking he will be imposed on
in theprice which is unvarying, being
one cent below the Savannah mar
ket. It is well known to all who
sbtp colton to that market, that it
will take more than one cent to sell
colton in Savannah; hence an ad
vantage tn favor of Louisville.—
Oiher advantage 3 winch are it it
necessary to name will incur to
the minds o those who will this k

The amount collected for the suf

over $5,000,000. It is estimated
that 125.000 persons, or about 2-5,000

by the insatiable fiie. Supposing
this estimate to be correct, lie lunrl
