Atlanta to visit Athens during the
bolidays, had her purse in a hand
satchel. While buying her reilrondtick
et a pickpocket opened her handsatchel’
swinging at her side and extracted her
purse and money, leaving her almost
financially stranded. Be careful of
pickpockets and holdups when you
visit Atlania. It’s getting to be as
tough as Chicago.
The First National Bank of Marietta
makes s very creditable semi-annual
statement in a half page advertisement
in this iesue which you will do well to
read. This Bank has made wonderful
stridesin the last two years, and is still
pushing forward. It is carefully and

On Wednesday of last week, Jordan,
the son of Mr. W, J. Black, about seven
years of age, was shooting at a loaded
cartridge in the barn at his home with
a parlor rifle. He struck the cartridge,
and there was a rebound, the bullet
gtriking him back of the ear, slightly
fraeturing the skull. Dr. Nolan at
tended him.

The Marietta Steam Laundry have
increased their capital stock to $4,000,
and organized under the charter with
the following officers: J. J. Daniell,
president ;C. E, Henderson, vice presi
dent, and Walter E. Schilling, secre
tary and treasurer. A site will be se
lected and the plant built at once.
For the lack of seating room, twenty
five pupils were turned away from the
publie schools last week. Our town is
growing very fast, and additionsal ac
commodations will have to be provided.
Messrs. Roy and Uharley Manning
have bought Mr. Parris’ dairy, and with
their mother, Mrs. Nary J. Manning,
now live in Mrs. Busiey’s cottage, on
Whitloeck avenue.

The MeNeel marble plant at Cordele
will be moved to Marietta.
The Courier is getting in its new ma
terial and will scon start up again.
My. Osment has moved his family in
the rear of his jewelry store.
Rev. J. D. Maddox ard family have
moved into his kouse, the Mullins place,
on Chureh street.
Barlow Minstrels will show here
Thursday night, January 10th, at Peo
ple’s Theatre.
Mr. William Coral and family have
moved back te Marietta. He will open
a tailor shop here.
Mr. H. E. Kerley is located at Mc-
Crary’s studio with his watch repair
shop.
Mr, A. 8. Mitche!l and family, of Da
visboro, Ga., have moved to Marietta,
and occupy the Groves house on Polk
street. -
Mr. C. C. Grist’s store, up-stairs and
down, is chock full of goods he bought
at the Bradley’s receiver sale in
Cartersville.
Oliver, son of Mr Passebois, scalded
his arm very badly with a pan of hot
milk one day last week. Dr. H. V.
Reynolds gave the necessary attention.
Mrs. Murray Hawkins has bought the
L. 8. Cox place, on Cherokee street,
from her brother, Mr, Will Cox. She
wag the owner of half the estate.
The January U. D. C. meeting will
be held in the Lodge voom, January
14th, at 3p. m. The change to the sec
ond Monday is for this month only, in
order to arrange program for L.ee’s
birthday, January 18th. This is the
time for payment of annual dues, and
a full attendance is desired.

Rev. G. W. Poor will serve the fol
lowing churches during.the present
year: Mt. Pisgah, Campbell county,
Holly Springs and Carmel, Cherokee
eounty, and Atlanta Heights. He has
been greatly blessed in his work during
the past year, and is very hopeful of
accomplishing great good in his present

Mrs. George A. Fox, nee Mise Euge
nia Kiser, formerly of Marietta, gave
us & pleasant cail on last Friday. S
was accompanied by her son, Mr. Henry j
H. Fox, and her daughter, Mise Eugw-!
nia Fox. Mr.and Mre, G. A. Fox now
live in Kansas City, Mo.. 1417 Belle
view. They left Maristta 22 years ago
for the northwest. She is visiting her
brother, Mr, Andrew J. Kiser, of Inman 1
Park, Atlanta, Mr. Andrew Kiser’s
daughter also sccompanied them to]
Marietta. We were glad to see Mrs.
Fox. BBhe is quite fleshy now, but still
retains her former beasuty and vivacity.
She is a grandmother, has a son and
daughter, all living in Kansas Qity.
Mre. ¥ox longs to live in Georgia again,
but her children living in Kansas City
keep her and Mr Fox reaidents of that
city.
MigsioNaAßY INsTITUTE. —A Missionary
Institute of the Marietta District will
be held at the Methodist shurch in
Marietta, beginning Tuesday nighta
7:30 o’elock, when a sermon will be
preached by Rev. Olin King. On
Wednesday morning, 23d, services will
be held at 9 o’clock, and sermon at 11
o’clock a. m., by Rev. I. H. Miller.
Preaching at night at 7:30, by Rev. W,
G. Crawley. The public is cordially
invited to attend these services,
Mre. Mclntosh, of this place, received
a telegram Friday from her son, Mr. J,
Houston Mcllntosgh, of Butte, Montana,
announcing the arrival of a fine son,
the first.
Diep.—lnfant of Mr. George Canip
died on last Friday and was buried
Saturday. Rev. J. J. Crow conducted
funeral services. His wife died about
ten days ago.
Mrs, R. T. Nesbitt returned Friday
from a vigit to her son, Mr. W. D. Nes
bitt, in Birmingham, Ala.
The young man who starts out get
ting drunk is very apt to end in the
gutter of disgrace. Don’t let any of
your fool frienda persuade you to drink,
for they are your worst enemies.
