Barlow Miustrels drew a full house
here on Thursday night, and gave one
of the best performances of refined
minstrelsy ever in Marietta.
Mr. Joe Abbott entertained at a 6:30
o’clock dinner on Tuesday evening of
last week a number of his young gen
tlemen friends at his home on Charch
Street. Mr. and Mrs. Abbott made it
very pleasant to those present.
One of our merchants had an experi-/
aneo he will not soon forget. A stran
ger entered his store, said be had just
moved to Marietta with his family, and
Wwas employed on the ‘“block system”
of the L. &N. He bought $85.00 worth
of goods for his house, and tendered a
check of one hundred doliars. The
obliging merchant received the check
and paid the difference of $l5 00 in cash.
The stranger never called for his goods,
and the merchant still has the check.
Moral—Don’t cash checks for strangers.
The mammoth stock of clothing,
shoes, hats, dry goods, underwear, ete.,
bought by Mr. C. C. Grist of tke re
ceiver of the Bradley store in Carters
ville, costing $27,000, has been brought
to Marietta, and is offered at u great
reduction, the sale to begin Saturday,
January 19th, at 8 o’clock, and last fif
teen days. The prices offered on these
up-to-date goods are bound to sell
them. It will pay you to come miles
to attend this sale. Read advertise

It is said a number of coupies who go
to Marietta preachers to have the mar
riage ceremony performed, do not pay
the officiating minister one cent. This
is too bad. The man who is too stingy
to pay the preacher to link his destiny
with an angel, ought to be ashamed of
himself. iHe will make a very sorry
husband.

Dr.C, E. W. Dobbs bas had printed a
folder giving the officers and the com
mittees of the Marietia Baptist Church
for 1807. Thutolder was printed at the
Journal job office, and Dr. Dobbs says
it is fully equal to any work he has
seen from any of the Atlanta printing
establishments.

Emma, the 10-year old daughter of
Mr. J. A. Stell, fell out of a swing, the
chain breaking, which resulted in her
right leg being broken above the ankle.
