The de. claration is made that the yarn mills are sold for six months ahead on contracts, and it is hard to place new business for the fu ture inside this limit. This con dition is regarded as distinctly bullish as far as the sale of yarn ie concerned, and the ccnsequence 18 that the market is strong and optimistic. This success has heen reached notwithstanding the fact that the raw material is bringing a price that is as higk as it was in periods when thé market was higher than now. The yarns sold have been placed largely through Northern houses with mills in the same sectisrn of the country who will draw on the Southern mills for the first half of the present year for the yarce to he woven into cloth for sale tothe jobber and consumer. Great Britain had no more-than launched her greatest cruiser, up to that time the ‘‘biggest ever’ of the class, when Germany an nounced that she would see her 17,500 tons and go her 2,000 tons better in a vessel of eimilar grade. These, be it remembered, are cruisers, not battleships. They are designed for high speed and to carry light guns; to be commerce destroyers, and not to fight in the line.;: It has been only a few years since the battleship of 15,000 tons was regarded as something tre mendous and world-defying, while the 10,000 ton cruiser sesmed to be pretty nearly the limit. Now the cruiser is bigger than the bat tleship of a few years ago, while the battleship seems to know no bounds. : s 3 A shrewd New Englarder, of the name of Barney, has gone to Flor ida for the purpose of raising alli gatore on a large scale for com mercial purposes.
