Mr. James W. Legg’s many friends
will regret to learn that he has typhoid
fever. He is holding his own, however,

Mcr. and Mrs. Leonard Yancey Dean,
of Eufauls, Ala., announce the engage
‘ment of their youngest daughter, Eliza
‘beth Simpson, to Mr. Cyrus King Hart
zell, of Birmingham, Ala., the marriage
to take place in November, in the Pres
byterian church at Eufaula. The en
gaged couple are well known in Mari
etta. Miss Dean has spent several
summers here, and Mr, Hartzell, form
erly of Pittsburg, Pa., was an employe
of the Marietta paper mill.
Dr and Mrs. Alfred Iverson Bran
ham, of Kirkwood, announce the en
gagement of their daughter, Louise
Julia, to Mr. Harris William Dews, of
Atlanta, the marriage to take place the
latter part of July. Miss Branham was
formerly a teacher in Marietta public
gchool.

The Women's Foreign Missionary So
ciety of the Methodist church will hold
its regular monthly meeting next
Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock, in the
church parlor. The members are urged
to attend, that plans for important
work may be formed. |

Diep.—Evelyn,aged eighteen months,
daugnter of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Lindley,
died last Friday night, at 9:30 o’clock,
Her funeral was conducted by Rev. C.
E. W. Dobbs. at the house, on Saturday
afternoon at 3 o’clock. The interment
was'in city cemetery. The bereaved
parents have our sympathy.

~ Mrs. Will Roesel, of Marietta, and
Mrs. Henry Gautschy, of Smyrna, ar
rived safely at Bremen, Germany, last
Friday morning. Mrs. Gautschy left
from there for Switzerland, to spend

with his wife and daughter, came to
our city last week. Mr. West returned
last Friday night, but the ladies will
remain for awhile for Mrs. West’s
health. They are with Mr. and Mrs.
Boyd, near Powder Springs.
Mt. John Schilling, of Atlanta, vis
ited home folks here Sunday.
Applicants for license to teach in the
publiec schools of Cobb county will be
given an examination at Marietta on
Friday and Saturday, 21st and 22nd
days of June, 1907, commencing each
day at 9 o’clock a. m.
All applicants are required to take
this examination in the county where
‘they teach. 5
The Teachers’ Institute will be held
in Marietta, beginning June 24th inst.
‘Teachers are required to attend this
Institute for one week.
