Last Thursday afternoon a heavy
rain storm prevailed at Austell and vi
cinity, accompanied with vivid light
ning. Mr. A. H. Irvine, merchant of
Austeli, had two wagons, one drawn by |
two mules and the other by two horses,
on their way to Atlanta. When the
teams had reached Monroe Brown’s
house, & colored man, about one mile
east of Augtell, the drivers stopped to
get out of the rain. A flash of lightning
killed both horses and one mule, and
also killed another mule hitched to a
tree owned by Mr. Ballard, and a hog
in a pen owned by Monroe Brown. The
negro drivers and the colored man
standing around were not hurt.

small private school at Locust Lodge,

Mr. J. H. Goggins, Jr. has let the
contract to Henry Meinert to build a
6-room house on Dallas road.

On last Thursday evening the yonng'
people were most enjoyably entertnin-'
ed by Miss Annie Waddell at2her home |

from infancy to the age of six or eight |
years. The guests found a great deali
of enjoyment in tracing the resem
blance of each one of them from their
childhood to the present. Mr Edgar
Anderson won the prize, a handsome
book, in this guessing comtest. A
music programme rendered by differ
ent guests added to the pleasure of the
evening. The porch was beautifully
illuminated with Japanese lanterns,
Deligious refreshments were served.
Or: Tuesday morning a camping party
set out for Factory Shoals, near Aus
tell, for a weeks outing. The party
congisted of Misses Marie Massey,
Clyde Malone, Mamie Dobbs, Susilee
Cantrell, Annie Waddell, Irma Neal,
Miss Manning, of Atlanta, Miss Crane,
of Decatur, and Messrs. Henry Cohen,
‘Marshall McKenzie, Albert Thornton,
Leslie Blair, Pat Anderson, Edgar An
derson, Rosser Lit:le, and Mr. MeKoin.
Chaperoning the party were Mr. and
Mrs. Dan Anderson, Mr, and Mrs. Geo.
Welsh, Mr. and Mre. Harry DuPre and
Miss Mary Dean Towers, |
Mr. H E. Kerley, who has been sick
for two weeks, is at his place of busi
ness again. His wife, we regret to
learn, is at home sick. |
